While we all get pumped for the coming season, what better than a thread on trivia?

Since this player is awesome, who played for the most games consecutively? Follow up: When did this streak end?

woot. Ding ding.

Cal was / is the man. I bet he could step in now and play SS / 3B for a major league team with a few months conditioning.

Hey Mighty Kefka, while I don't know Toxic's rules, it's your turn to make a trivia question.

i'll pose mine own and from this point forward, the person who answers gives a new question...not unless they'll leave it to someone else to post the next one

Q: How long has it been since the the World Series Champion was not on U.S. Soil?

A. I think it was the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993 against the Philadelphila Phillies. If I remember correctly, that was the game where Joe Carter hit the memorable game winning home run in Game 6 to win it all.

Q. In Game 6 of the 1977 World Series againt the Dodgers, Riggie Jackson hit 3 consecutive home runs against three different pitchers. Name all three of them.

Burt Hooton, Elias Sosa, and Charlie Hough.

Questione. In 2000, this player played at all nine positions in one game for his team. Who was it and what team was he on? Double bonus points if you can tell me who they played against, and if you can tell me what order he played each position, you REALLY need to get out more.

I know Damian Jackson did it all except catcher and pitcher last year for the Sox, but all 9?

I'd guess Jose Conseco. As for what team he played for or the team against, I dunno. So I can only be half right.

Okay, I cheated on the Reggie Jackson question anyways. Retrosheet has damn near everything you could ask for. And I'll give you the date, too. October 1, 2000. Home game. And it was at a new stadium, too.

How did you find it through all that mess? I went to boxscores and game logs, both were fubar.

I... uhm... searched by player. Checked by year, and that's INSANE. They need to make those searchable.

Anyway, I don't know how much this'll help, but the stadium did open in 2000 as well. So what do you have?

* The player in question achieved this feat on October 1, 2000.
* This game was a home game for his team.
* This team's stadium opened that year as well.

If you can guess the team, you'll be able to figure out the rest from Retrosheet's box score.

I do apologize for spelling Reggie wrong. I was typing really fast and I didn't realize I spelled it wrong until now. I can't believe I spelled it wrong. Oh well!

Anyways, I think the answer to drjayphd's question is Shane Halter with the Detroit Tigers when they played against the Twins.

I definitely can't tell you the order of the positions he played. Someone else is gonna have to figure it out.

...that is CORRECT! I'll give you the order from the box score:

* First base
* Third base
* Right field
* Center field
* Left field
* Shortstop
* Catcher
* Pitcher
* Second base

The Tigers won that game 12-11. Ruby, the question is yours.

Q. Who was the first pitcher to ever win the Cy Young Award from both the American League and the National League?
