Sure could've fooled me.

Still kind of funny how there's been no actual shots of any data being read or anything; it just sits there.

And, yes, he may work on whatever he wants, but it's generally stupid to do much else than work on the menus and looks.

I did this yesterday, but here, its the layout for the editors, ive done it much different, and its not done yet, but the first thing im gonna get to work is the 8x8 editor, then the 16x16 then the gfx editor. then ill load the levels. and seeing how I have to recode it, I dont see how its possible to have anything really being read really yet.

I still need to add more tabs, and buttons, etc.
Next screenshot I show, will have the 8x8 editor working.

I would have guessed you would load levels before working on the complex editors. But maybe that's just me

um..but fusoya had a working 8x8 editor which could actually display the graphics. You have an 8x8 editor which can display...nothing. I have absolutely no knowledge of VB at all, and i've just created the exact same screen that u have on my VBNET copy, in about 3 mins.

Learn to Read...I said "NEXT screenshot I show will have the 8x8 editor working"...and I know, I did this screen in about 1 or 2 mins.
that was just to show the way it will look...

Well, if we're showing how our editors will look...

Something like that. Roughly. Not very impressive right now, especially externally.

(Thanks to Weasel and Iggy. You know why)

I said I was earlier in the thread. As I've said, competition is good. With the big-name NES games, there are frequently multiple editors that work with the same game, and it provides the users with choice. There's no reason SNES games should be different. Besides, you're working on entirely different features from me to start with. We could pool our recources farther down the road, or just specialize. Also, if two people are doing it, there's less of a problem if someone drop soff the face of the earth. Finally, there's also the element of motivation. If each of us try to out program the other, we'll each do better for it.

Why give up, is a better question.
From this project, you gain:
- Programming experience useful for future projects
- Respect from all those that can't do any of the stuff you've shown so far
- People with renewed interest in YI hacking, ensuring it won't die off too quickly

and many more things I'm currently forgetting.

It sounds like you've put alot into it so far, it would be a shame to let it go to waste.
And remember, everyone has been showing screenshots of their work in progress YI editors... I'm sure not all of them will make it to release status. And if they do, people will use all of them. Competition is good for everyone.

Exactly. It's always nice to have a choice in editors. Besides, I'd rather wait a while longer for an editor with more features I'd use, or an all-feature editor.

You give up on this, and I'll kill you. You make this and leave out all the goodies you promised us all, I will kill you, then, as well. Now, get you ass in gear. Go, dammit! Make your super-awesome editor, or whatever you promised us. It's been, like 2 months, I think, and all I've seen are a buncha blank screens. Not good. People are getting restless.

He showed some progress from HIS editor. He's not making it for you or any of the other restless people, and opinions of the "Make it faster, do it now, do it for ME" type can just be ignored or laughed at. Mostly laughed at.

I don't think it's fair to call it "HIS editor". Maybe something more like "HIS 2-minute user interface" would be better.

Alright, well first of all, VB6 > VB.NET. Second, for those who say he should do this first and that later and so forth, let me tell you how I do things:
1) Create an interface. Not the interface, just something really basic. Usually little more than a form, a menu with Open, Close, Reload and Open Level, and a status bar.
2) Work on loading the level data and getting it all done right.
3) Work on loading the graphics, so you can tell what the level's supposed to look like.
4) Work on figuring out pointer tables and headers, so the levels are loaded just like in the game instead of having to give it an address, tileset, etc.
5) Get basic level editing working.
6) Add more features, updating the interface as needed.
7) Finish the interface.
8) Add extra features (ExGFX and such, anything not related to the main purpose of the editor).
Most importantly, though: Do what you're in the mood to do. If you feel like making an interface first, do it. Eventually you'll get bored of it and work on the code.

BTW: I hate to sound arrogant, but from what I see, I doubt you can pull this off. Even if you manage to do it, I still have an editor of my own on the back burner, I'll probably work on it a bit when I get home. We're talking serious hacking here, like take LM, port it to VB, and make it hack YI. I don't have any pics up, basically there's one of object IDs being drawn, and one of squares that are supposed to show their size.

That's the first few objects of 1-1. I'm currently getting "Weird Error 6E", which means that the program thinks object 6E is not FF (it's not), it's not a 4 byte object (it's not) and it's not a 5 byte object (it is). This, of course, should be my fault, but it'll take a while to track down, and sleep is getting attractive. Still thought it was worth posting, since it's the first data loaded from the ROM that's been seen in this thread.

The output off to the side may be confusing. The two numbers under "DEBUG!" are object numbers the program thinks there is a problem with. I haven't figured out why it's saying that about those last two, though. Under "Objects" we have each object that's been loaded, in the format ID X Y XSize YSize, all in hex, up untill 6E, which I mentioned. Then it says that it loaded 6 objects. And it did.

Random - I figured out how to seperate nibbles from bytes all by myself .

Oh, and HyperHacker... mine displays rectangles AND shows object IDs at the same time. It's twice as good! ...
