Rock covers metal, rock covers mostly everything If you're into the Darkness, then that's old school rock. Every band can be derived from that term, it's just how you classify it.

I hate to classify things, though. You can argue until the cows come home about what is the difference between trash and thrash metal. They're inventions of the media and record companies, and I don't really care. I just love the music.

My favorites, again in no order:

The Offspring
AFI
Muse
Rammstein
Powerman 5000
Spineshank
Manic Street Preachers
Mansun
Idlewild
Limp Bizkit
American Head Charge
Amen
CKY
Placebo
Blink 182
Linkin Park
Coal Chamber
Feeder
HIM
Blur
Green Day
System of a Down
Machinae Supremecy
A Perfect Circle
Deftones
Bluetones
Papa Roach
Static X
Murderdolls
Queen

I love many rock bands, particularly classic rock and some garage bands that you've never heard of (except Z), but my two favorite all-time bands are(yes, there was a tie):

The Who
Led Zeppelin

Favourite rock band...that'd be Yes. They're known for Roundabout and Owner of a Lonely Heart. The stuff that wasn't played on the radio was much, much better though.

My favorite rock band would have to be the Eagles. The songs Hotel California and Seven Bridges Road are my favorite of theirs.

Why bother posting then? .....

anyway.. Mine at this moment in time would be either Nirvana or The Strokes they are very different from most other types of music which draws me to the music mostly.

Say merc, I suggest you check out Coheed and Cambria. Musically they're kind of a blend of pop punk and metal, plus some progressive qualities, and the vocalist is very similar to The Mars Volta's. For $10, you could pick up their newest album, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 at Target or possibly Best Buy too, and it comes with a free DVD of an interview of sorts and some neato music videos (one of which is an alternate take which is insanely funny, and I shall share no more). Hell, I suggest this album to anyone.

Speaking of Led Zeppelin, has anyone listened to their new 3 CD set 'How The West Was Won' ? It's amazing, all live material from 1972.

Actually, my vote goes for David Bowie.

Ultimate rock god.

Heroes is such a perfect album.

I like Poppy-type rock, like Ash and Feeder, I also LOVE White Stripe's "Seven Nation Army", probably because it's built like a dance song... (and that BASSLINE..god, how kick arse is that?!). The Darkness are alright in small doses. I love Justin Heyward/War of the Worlds, early Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi during the "SLippery when wet" era, and a lot, LOT others.

Oh the Black Mages kick arse too.

Van Halen is about the only band I can think of right now. I never really listened to rock except on the radio.

Mars Volta. Now there's a band. They're getting pretty popular. You know of At The Drive In?

You might also like De facto if you enjoyed those trippy parts in DeLoused.
