Ok, as I stated before, I guess I will have to state it again. My school is just on computers. Which means we dont have fucking text books. Also I said we are a high school and we need all our work for all four years. Plus the 375 students is only the Freshmans and Sophmores. We are a brand new school and every year we will open another grade so next year we will have Jr.'s too. The point doesnt matter on what it is for. We have the cords and all. I said we have a server but we need our own which in reality means we have the tools already. Ok so to make it shorter we just need a server at our school!

Any other arguements?

Oh sorry, should have said proffesional video editing.

And TG, it doesn't matter if they "look great". It should look perfect, exactly the way it looked when filmed. That means: no loss. You work with the raw video material, and convert the fully edited product to whatever you want it encoded to.

3000 $ probably won't fit all all. As said above, every student don't need several gigabytes of storage place; instead the computers should be good enough to run Photoshop with several images open simultaneously for example. The best server system doesn't work if the the comps are too crappy
Don't forget the servers need to be checked as well; and everything needs to be backuped daily too, on external harddrives, which can be plugged of the network after holding the data. If a virus destroys any diploma tasks or something equivalent, this will be more than bad, if the backup-server got infected and the recovery hard drives are los as well .
For some people, even MS Word already destroyed their documents in very large amount of pages, including images and such; so it should be sure as well

All we need is the godamn server we have everything else. We have protection against everything. My school is just retarted I guess. This is what I was told. I am not telling them anything. They just wanted me to look for the space on a server so I did. Its not like I made the LIST!!!!

SPACE on a server? I HOPE you realize that we're talking about how much this would cost for an ACTUAL PC at your school... if you want a webserver, this will be hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars a MONTH!

And Randy: Um, ok, a 100-Page textbook IN PDF FORMAT takes up like 10 megs (WITH IMAGES)... so um... I have no idea what your PC-illiterate teachers/administrators are thinking.
Let's see here...

8 books per year * 20 megs a book (OVER ESTIMATE) * 4 years (NO NEED to multiply by 375, 1 remote book copy is enough for every student) = 640 MB
Documents: 10MB (NO WAY IN HELL) * 375 students * 4 years = 15000 MB
Video/Audio editing: 50 MB per student (NO WAY IN HELL) * 375 * 4 = 75000 MB

Total = 90640 MB or about 95GB of HD space (since HD mfg's say 1 GB = 1 000 000 000 bytes, and OSes say 1 GB = 1 073 741 824 bytes).

Even if each student did video/audio editing, used 100MB each (NO FUCKING WAY), and ALL the work was saved over 4 years (in other words, a Sr can still view work from Fr year), you're talking about less than 670 gigs!

yeah but he's also talking about "space on a server"

which makes no sense whatsoever, in any degree

so obviously he nor anyone else who seems to think he does...

actually know at all what they are talking about

and obviously the school is beyond retarted

for asking a student.... who is like 15 computer questions ...

as opposed to someone like me, who has forgotten more about computers than randy will ever know....

no offense randy, I'm just a smart fucker

Uh yea Randy, you should really go talk to your school admins. Why were you put in charge of it anyway? I say your school should take a couple hundred bucks and actually hire someone who knows what they are doing. This makes no sense if your school uses all computers then why the hell dont they have some type of analyst who can actually do this type of stuff.

My teacher read it wrong!!! I just found out when I checked it out. He thought we each had 7 gigs when I told him we had 7 gigs total. Yes I was wrong, but because I didn't check. And Erk yes my teacher is a fuktard.
