I was thinking that maybe you could have sub forums (forums within forums) and/or sub threads (threads within threads) if this is possible.
Just an idea

Well isn't it already kinda like that.. in General we have General Chat, Newbie Forum.... in Computers and IRC we have Programming, Harware....

I can't imagine any current situation where we would need to have a thread within a thread. Can you provide an example?

Well in the thread called "books" I noticed that there was sort of two conversations going, one about the Harry Potter Books and the other about the books people were reading at that stage. This could have had the sub thread 'Harry Potter Books' I guess.

Or they could just branch off and make a Harry Potter thread, if it got to be too much of an issue.. it doesn't seem like we need more rules on what to post and where.

"maybe" "just and idea" "I guess".. heh, if you're not sure about the idea, why should anyone else care?

Generally, in my experiences with forums, sub forums inside of forums just lead to confusion and extra clutterness, and in worst case scenarios, spam. It generally is a good idea to leave them out.

Invision has sub-forums and I hate them. The phpBB staff does too, because I remember somewhere them saying that sub-forums wouldn't be in the official phpBB for at least a very long time.

They just end up being confusing and stuff, I say no.

this could also be solved by fuck tards not having off topic discussions

and starting a Harry Potter thread instead.....

so basically you want everyone to have to click more because some people are too stupid to know when to make a new thread....

Here's some chill pills. Take 5 a day in 4 hour intervals.

I have seen Sub-Forums before at places like Real Life Comics. I think it's nicely done there, too. In the comic forum, you have the main part that is talking about just general things of the comic. On top are links to sub-sections, where more specific discussions are being held. Maybe something like this could be made:

http://board.acmlm.org/forum.php?id=23&sub=1

It's purely hypothetical, but let's say that 23 is the SMW hacking forum. In there is a sub-forum for Lunar Magic where people would ask questions about it. That would be 'sub=1', or 1 for that forum.

Maybe it could even reduce the amount of forums on the main page. Not that I'm complaining <__<

I disagree. It would only make more of a problem.

We already have the errors of users putting stuff in wrong forums now. If we make subforums, people will start putting THOSE in the wrong subforums.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it

well let's see here....

you have CATEGORIES... called COMICS

then you have GENERAL COMIC forum where GENERAL shit goes

then you have SPECIFIC forums RIGHT THERE in that category.....

sub categories would just create a click fest

I guess it would be too confusing. It would also increase page load time.

Dark: It shouldn't cause any problems at all, since one line of text shouldn't make 56kers lag. Ever.

I all messed up what I Wanted to say...
What I meant is that It would take more time to browse around the posts (since I usually have more than one window open it does make a difference)
