well, i think its either 6 more, because both parents are related to 9 of the children, that leaves 6, but if its a trick question, as it didn't ask how many children are related, it asks how many children were born, ms bird might have been pregnent when they got married, having a single, twins or even triplets, so im gonna say seven. Edit, none whatsoever! if they were actually birds, then their children would have hatched instead of being born. (edited by ziratha on 01-22-05 01:28 PM) |

When did anyone say they were birds? OK there were 12 children in the bird family, plus the ones that dont have the last name bird, so thats another nine, so there are 21 kids all together. 9 of the 12 bird kids are mr. birds pre-marriage kids and the other 3 are ones that he and mrs. bird had. The answer is 3. I know thats what uly answered, but I explained it better than 12-9=3. |

You got a problem with the detective? And if Kario's wrong, what about different types of computer RAM? I know RD is one of them.... ST and ND, of course, probably aren't. |

Only thing that comes to mind is 3rd, 1st, 2nd. But that's pretty much what Kario said, only in numeric form.

The 3rd, 1st, 2nd thing seems right, but just in case the answer is a little more in depth, I'll say it's a medal stand, like in the Olympics:

Announcer: Dawg! Question Machall: An old Arab who is about to die, informs his three sons that he will leave them his camels. (How nice.) To the eldest son he leaves half of his camels. To his second son he leaves one third of them, and to his youngest, he leaves one ninth. (Poor guy.) After the old man died, the three sons went to get their camels, but discovered there were 17 animals. They did not want to sell or kill any of the camels, and they could not think of a way to divide the camels exactly as their father wished. Just then, Abdullah came riding along on his camel and listened to their problem. Immediately, Abdullah thought of a way to divide the camels just as the old man had wished. What was his easy solution? Teddylot: That's right. |

Give them his camel? That way there would be 18. Half is 9, 3rd is 6, 9th is 2. Then he gets his camel back. (edited by Kario on 02-17-05 09:07 PM) |

He doesnt take the camel back from anyone. There is one left over. Did you think 9+6+2=18? Good math. 9+6+2 is 17, then the remaining camel that no one got goes back to the guy.

Teddylot: Cool, we're back. Announcer: And I bet you're wondering why we're back so soon. So are we. Teddylot: Normally, we just leave this thread to rot for a week or two and then come back. I can't see how the shower was hot enough to generate steam that quickly after the gas and power were turned on. Wouldn't the entire building need to be heated first?

Although thats probably the answer, I am thinking he didnt even get in @ precisely 6 for one, and I usually let my water run for a while before even getting in so there is steam. I dunno, thats why that didnt stand out to me, but its probably the answer. My guess is the elevators. He said the burglars could read the notices in them, but if the power is off the elevators wont open, so they wouldnt be able to read it and therefore wouldnt know about it being shut off. |

Well the building wouldn't need to be heated first... but the water heater would need to be turned on long enough for the water to get hot. Otherwise, no steam. If the power just came on, then the water heater definitely wouldn't have been on long enough. |
