Obviously. But more specifically, I'd like to point out my good friend Mr. Mountain Dew. MD is quite possibly the worst soda you could drink. It has more sugar than coke which is HORRID for your teeth. Especially if you're one of those "sippers" who take a drink, come back 20 minutes later take another drink...and so on throughout the day. I did that for the past several years and my teeth started to decay. Most notably the front teeth where the gumline is. It actually started eating away at the tooth and there were these gaps that grew bigger and bigger. I had this operation done a few days ago where they filled it with this resin type material which was the same color as my teeth so I'm all good to go. But if I didn't have it done, my front 4-5 teeth would have eventually rotted away until they fell out. And I brush regularly too. But not during the work day when I drink most soda. If you're going to drink Mountain Dew (or any kind of soda with a lot of sugar) the best thing to do is to drink it all at once. And afterwards, if you can't brush, then rinse out your mouth with water. Coke is bad too because you take a drink, and the caramel insides just likes to make a sugar coating on your teeth. It takes about 20 minutes for your mouth to restore back to its regular PH level. But like I said, if you're the sipper type, you keep a constant coating of sugar on your teeth which is verrrry bad. That's why I probably wont drink MD anymore. Not nearly as much as I used to. I'm buying bottled water and juices now. And I only touched on what it does to your teeth. It's also horrible for nutrition and makes your bones weaker. Ugh. |

Ugh, I have a soda every day at school for my drink. Makes me feel real good about my teeth's future. I think I'm going to cut back now, I mean, what's wrong with water anyways? |

I'm pretty sure it's reported that Yellow 5 ( the food color in MD ) has a shriveling effect on your Testes

Originally posted by Toxic Not only will water do NO damage to your teeth whatsoever (unless it's well water or something...) but as a bonus, it's good for you too. You should be ok if you at least rinse your teeth off with water after you drink soda. Not nearly as affective as brushing, but at least it's something. If I drink soda now, I immedietly brush my teeth after. Oh, and I didn't mention what happened before my teeth started growing a big hole. At first, they started changing a brownish yellow at the top where the gum starts. It was quite nasty. But that's all gone now. But dont' count on the dentist saving them. You could reach a point where your whole tooth is too decayed to be saved. Then you're screwed. Don't get me wrong, I love soda and all but I also enjoy being able to smile and chew food even more. EDIT: Erk, that's not true. Read on (edited by Legion on 05-13-04 07:49 PM) |

I've known about Mountain Dew's bad stuff for a while now, and I have not touched it since I found out that you can get shrinkage from it. Therefore, I stick to Diet Pepsi and Diet Dr. Pepper and the likes. And the only reason I drink diet is because I'm diabetic.

Waddler-D, I don't think Sprite is one of the worse things for your teeth but it still has sugar and carbonation. Bad mix. Granted not nearly as much sugar as MD. I think MD has 2-3 times as much sugar actually. And Orange? Depends on who makes it. I myself like Fanta. Oh, something else the dentist said... He said eating a 5 pound bag of sugar was better for your teeth than drinking soda throughout the day. Again, it's all about that "sugar coating" that soda leaves on your teeth. |

I don't care... it's still really bad. And I said "ever since I heard" implying that when I heard the gross, untrue statement, I never touched it again. It may be untrue, but it doesn't hurt for me to stay away nonetheless... does it ? Besides, just in case, I don't wanna get shrinkage < _< |

Well, guys... I don't believe you should suddenly stop drinking pop just because you know it's bad for you like that, teeth and health-wise. Just treat like a very sweet... thing. Especially the Mountain Dew, make that like an annual drink. It's best to just brush/rinse your mouth out after a soda, as Legion suggested. I think it's why I have some of these damn cativies. Kefka, I highly doubt the shrinkage of the testes is true. Not because I want to believe, but because it's not. |

I've heard that brushing immediately after drinking pop can be bad as well, as the residue on your teeth will strip enamel if it's brushed too soon. It's best to wait about 20 minutes after drinking pop to brush.

I used to drink a lot of soda when I was a kid, but I kind of grew out of it. I've been a hardcore fan of water for years, and I have learned to hate the bubbling nastiness that is soda. My sister, onthe other hand, lives drinks and breathes pepsi. She hardly ever drinks anything else BUT it.

Erk: we heard you about the sprite already Toxic: You should never decline soda...especially at your house Jarukoth: Pinapple soda....ROCKS. God...I am surprised anybody in my family has teeth...The only time I pick another drink over soda (usually coke) is when I'm at school and the serve milk, but I usually buy a soda anyway. Goodbye teeth. I wonder how bad that Minute Maid Orange Soda/Juice stuff is for your mouth. It tastes awesome. BEST SODA EVER *waits 10 minutes then brushes teeth* |
