| Yea, and don't brush this off just because I'm a spammy n00b who has more wasteful posts than anyone else: Ok, first off, let's look at one of the saddest forums in the board: Mario's Dead Forum OK, yea... let's look at what's in this topic on the first page alone (oh wait, there's only one page): -21 polls (18 of them dead, the other 3... meh, they just need not be there... and I made one!) -About 10 other topics which have "your favorite [blahblah]" in the topic title. Most of these are dead. -Topics that get maybe about 10 posts a day if lucky -The same crap over and over again (often there are repeat topics) Well, my suggestion as to what to do with this sad forum is... move it into General Gaming. Yep, there's no point for it being there as far as I can see... there's not overloads of nice Mario topics there. If anything, there's topics of desperation that are just being made to try to keep the forum alive (that's what I made my poll for  ). So... I say move it.The FF Forum is in a similar predicament; although it may have more useful and interesting topics, it doesn't get enough posts per day to stay up. It too should be merged. If a topic arises about Advent Children or something that gets really popular in General Gaming, it could be temporarily stickied. And I say temporarily because we all know that topics like that are "flavor of the week" topics. Which brings me to my next suggestion. One Legion had suggested at the old board to do this, but the feedback hadn't ever really been that specific or understandable, even. So, here goes, on behalf of Leg and me, assuming Leg hasn't changed his mind in the last month... "Flavor of the month" forums, so to speak. There will be hot topics every month, right? Some of us want a debate forum, but since every time it's been suggested it's been shot down, I'm going to give up on that. But there are current issues that could be discussed in full length and could all have their own forum. Right now, a good example would be E3. There's a ton of topics in General Gaming about E3 and the games/systems being shown there. Everyone wants to know about something different. So, you could have a forum temporarily dedicated to E3, and you could have seperate topics to please everyone. You could have a new Zelda topic, a Dual Screen topic, a PSP topic, a San Andreas topic (though it's not being shown at E3 for some reason), etc. Some people might even want to know all about KH2. And since Popstar goes to it, he could be the temp mod or whatnot. However, it's kinda late for that now, but maybe next year.  Other topics that have been hot in any given month are Iraq, and in a few months the Elections will be a big topic, and then there are always various fads that take place that people make 500 topics about. A temp forum for each new fad or major topic that doesn't last very long could be very good for organization and even activity. At the very least, with the switching of the forums every month or so, it would force the admins to be more active on a regular basis. Now, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if I got banned for suggesting all this, but oh well, so be it. I just thought that maybe things like this could help the board out a little and increase activity, but perhaps even if they were implemented, they wouldn't. The first two would at the very least clear up some space and perhaps decrease useless topics. Well, figured it wouldn't hurt to suggest, so there you go. |

| Well, some topics will repeat regularly in a message board. Polls like "Which is the best Mario game?" will be seen again and again. Peopleregister every day, maybe the last similar poll like that was two months ago and probably vanished somewhere on page three of the sub-forum index, the new user read the rules and do not want to push an older thread, so he simply creates a new one Of course for us more 'oldbie' people it is annoying, but as for mentioning not to make these thread too often, we cannot do anything. Although I don't post that often in Super Mario Series, I suggest keeping the forum like before. It is an major part of the board, which is set up Marioish anyway, just check the top banner in the default scheme, the rank icons or the gallery avatars here. We probably just would neet some new Material, unfortunately there are not that insane amount of really worht Mario games to talk about, so this is another reason below the first one on top, what makes some threads repeating and trying to "scratch" out every possible option to talk about a Mario game. Similar it is for the FF forum, although it is not the board's theme. Final Fantasy is the far most famous RPG series in the world. Many people like the games, although for me it FF doesn't mean everything must be perfect (there are far better games than the most parts of FF for me, but this doesn't belong here and could be discussed in a future thread probably ).What I rather would suggest would be renaming the forum from "Final Fantasy Series" to "Roleplaying games" in general. There are also lots other RPGs, like the Star Ocean series, Grandia, Breath of Fire, Suikoden, Wild Arms etc. pp, to mention only the most major ones. In it FF also could be posted, as well kept the stickied threads in there. It would be just a simple renaming of the thread title and simply allowing to post any crap about other RPGs in that forum as well. |

| Hmm... The Mario forum isn't exactly the most active forum though... It did a lot better than this Bubble Bobble hacking forum that was on the last board before it caved in. I see what you mean though. There are a lot of polls that are kind of asking the same thing. You never know, there may be some life in there. Gandalf has a good idea with FF forum though, converting it into a Role-playing forum would certainly give that more life, since a number of people seem to love RPG's. (I do too, so...  )I'm not too sure about the Mario forum being in General Gaming, but I like the flavor idea, it would be interesting, I would think. |

| people rarely get banned for suggesting legitimate changes and doing it in the appropriate manner... which I must say you did most appropriately...... could you possibly consider making your font bold ?? or something so I can actually read your posts without hitting new reply ?? I'd say the Mario forum is fine... it has had about 9 posts just today..... I think a forum would be "inactive" if it didn't get any posts in like a week or something 10 posts a day seems like enough to warrant a forum.... the FF Forum is signifigantly less active than the Mario forum... but still a pretty valid overall topic of discussion..... it could probably just as easily go in general gaming or something, but I personally see no harm with the FF forum actually existing as far as the Debate forum, I personally support the idea of a Debate forum, it has been a pretty good success on my forum, except when one of the debates turned stupid, I closed it, and then a few of my members attacked the board and all...... I don't think a "flavor" of the month forum is very usefull I mean talk about E3 in the gaming forum... simple.... just about any "flavorfull" topic could be discussed in a forum that fits it's topic..... that's where people are going to go to talk about it anyway.... and if you have another "general" forum where "flavorfull" topics go... it just becomes confusing..... so in recap.... 1) Mario forum seems fine to me, it's not hurting anything 2) FF Forum seems fine too 3) I support the concept of creating a Debate forum, assuming it's moderated correctly.... 4) I think a "flavor of the month" forum is a bad idea and would only serve for double threads and confusion.... |

Nice!OK, how about, since we seem to have a slight difference of opinion in everyone that posted here, we make a compromise: -Add a debate forum (hey, Erk said it, not me )-Change FF Forum into RPG Gaming Forum -Leave Mario forum as is -Leave all other forums as are Sounds like a plan to me! | A debate forum has been discussed for ages. And agreed on for ages. It's just never been added. FF to rpg forum doesn't sound that bad. Since RPG is an art of itself, a good one  So I could go with that. And leave rest as it is. |

| Some of the "add a debate forum" threads turns into a debate themself. And i'm actually for the idea. I would leave the forums as is, I actually wouldn't mind if FF forum was turned into a RPG one. But some probably mind. But they did change RPG maker forum into Game creation forum. |

| Actually, those are some pretty good ideas. Typically people who love FF love RPGs in general.. and there's a group of people who like RPGs and nothing else, and vice versa.. so they can all huddle in the RPG forum and leave the REAL games in the gaming forum. >=D But seriously.. is it just me or is it like there's a group of gamers and then a group of RPGers? I don't know how successful a debate forum would be, but it wouldn't hurt to try it out. |

| @Legion: Yes, the Japanese people got the joy to know far more RPGs than us Europeans at least ... only since the release from Final Fantasy VII inside Europe oficially (though there many people interested in FF already ... like me when I got my imported FF VI US copy some time ago ) they knew that theur RPGs also outside Japan/USA can result in hard Dollars/Euros for them ... Fortunately there are other good games like Disgaea on PS2; this one will be even released in Europe in the later part of May Back on topic The question also might be if there should be distinguised between Emulation (GE) and ROM Hacking (RH). General Emulation might go into General Gaming as well ... or merging GE with RH. So I'd go with one thread dealing with all hacking data like offsets, editors and such, and a "regular" gaming forum, except there go every normal questions besides hacking in there; such as opinions to games, help, challenges etc. (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 05-15-04 08:47 AM) |

| Here's my input on the suggestions: -Add a debate forum: I don't know about this one. All of the topics would turn into flame wars. If this is implemented, you should have a single debate topic a month, that way there will always be topics to debate upon instead of burning through every debatable subject in a month. -Change FF Forum into RPG Gaming Forum: This sounds cool to me. -Leave Mario forum as is: Sounds ok to me. -Leave all other forums as are: This sounds cool to me. |
