OK, I just have to vent this somewhere, because I'm mad. And I like to write it down when I vent. Don't respond if you don't have anything good to say. Or helpful. OK, so here goes my rant:

I, as some of you may know, am moving to the Los Angeles area this summer. My dad is a high school basketball coach and an award winning Social Studies teacher (4 who's who in America's teacher appearances among other things). He applied to several places out in California. One place he applied was Bakersfield. To give you a background on just how good their team is, they've won several state championships, were ranked 15th in the NATION last year, and were expected to be even BETTER this year. OK, now, this other place that he applied was San Dimas. They just sucked last year. They sucked badly. Really badly. That's all I need to say. Well, surprise surprise, he got offered by both. And when Bakersfield offered him, they said "We're going to go and prepare for the press conference now" but he had to tell them "I have to talk to my wife first"

Now, location wise, Bakersfield is about 2-3 hours away from the mainstream of things in L.A. and San Dimas is basically part of the hustle and bustle that is that place now. San Dimas is 10 minutes away from where my mom's parents live. Bakersfield is like, 2 hours away. My mom and dad have been living in Indiana as of late. My mom HATES Indiana. Too conservative. I found that problem here too, but I could tolerate it, I guess. She wants to move back to where she would be accepted for who she is, apparently. And Bakersfield is crazy about basketball, just like schools in Indiana are. And Bakersfield has a lot of farmland. "It's as close to Indiana as you'll get in California" my mom cried. "That's why you're so comfortable there, [dad's name]." In short, she wanted to be close as possible to home, and she didn't want to be anywhere NEAR a cornfield.

Bakersfield would have covered 100% of our insurance bills. They would have paid dad 57000 dollars a year. San Dimas covers 70% of the bills. They will be paying him 42000 a year. Dad has accepted San Dimas because it would make mom more comfortable. So he has declined to coach one of the best teams in the nation so that he can go coach a team with a continuous losing record. I was the manager of my dad's other teams in Indiana, but I will refuse to be his manager at a place that has had a chronic losing record, when he could have coached a top 15 national team. I would have gladly been the manager at Bakersfield. But now that he is going to San Dimas, I don't even know if I want to go to that school with him. I will have trouble being in the same room as him knowing that he declined a dream job for some crap job. And I will have trouble being in the same room as mom knowing that she persuaded him to not go there... I'm fucking pissed.

It's difficult for me to empathize with you, but see it from your dad's point of view: he wants to please the people he loves. Giving up a higher-paying, higher-benefits job is selfless and admirable. I'll guarantee you that, in the long run, the environment you live in will be much more important than how good the basketball team is (who the hell cares?) or how much money is made.

I've found that state- and nationally-ranked schools tend towards an elitist mentality, anyway. It's not your loss, it's theirs.

yeah, 1) you don't pay the insurance bills
2) you don't pay any bills

so why is it any of your concern how much money your dad makes, or how many insurance bills his job pays ??

Being married is about comprimise and shit like that.

that's how it works....

I would take a 30K job over a 130K job over my wife being miserable......

and that's that...

yeah Kefka... just because Daddy can't buy you stuff anymore doesn't mean you can get all pissy about it...

if you want new toys then get a job and buy it yourself like most of us have to do.... or at least.... that's how life will be... so start getting used to it

Yea, I've gotten over it... I was just stupid whenever I posted that... we be living in Pasadena... so I'm ok with that. And geeo, I'ma HAVE to get a job sometime or other, because my parents aren't paying ANY college tuition... they refuse to. So, I either have to hope I get a full ride somewhere or get financial aid and then pay off whatever I have to pay... yep, probably the latter.

and that's the way it should be.... at least, kids should pay it back after they get out of school or whatever.... because I think it's stupid for parents to pay for their kids to go through college and then not get anything back for it

my parents are making me pay for all of it too.... they will pay the lump sum with their credit card.... but they make me work it off and pay them back for it.... so yeah... I have no real sympathy for you

I never asked or implied the desire of any. I know you hate me, but don't rub it in.
