Really, it's just an edit of the old title screen to fit the theme of the newest world I'm working on. I changed the demo level to go along with this idea. I think I'm going to do that for every demo I release (I am going to finish at least 2 more worlds before the next demo, though), just to vary things up a little bit. The final version will have a completely unique title theme that doesn't match with anything else in the hack.

Also, you can see that I changed the font quite a bit, which I think makes it look that much more spiffy. It's still a work in progress, like mose of my graphics, so various changes are likely to happen. Let me know what you think, as always.

1. I think we'd all prefer ZSNES screenshots.

2. It's worse... Your last one denoted a sense of fun, and devoting a title screen to your bleakest level isn't exactly going to give a good impression to people seeing it for the first time. As for your font... It's... strange No comment, it's just... creepy...

Actually... it IS a ZSNES screenshot. And the mood of the game after the first world is a lot less happy go lucky.

If it is a ZSNES screenshot, why are there grey/white dots at the top left of the image?

And yes, I agree with Kyouji that you should stick with the old title screen. The title screen's theme won't go with the happy music. And I like title screens that are bright and happy.

If I keep the old title screen, a lot of people are going to make the mistake that entire world is happy themed, which really isn't the case. Bear in mind that this isn't the final title screen, it is only the title screen for the current demp. Since the theme of it's levels will mostly be dreary, the title screen should reflect that.

The white dots are the bottom part of a cloud.

Yes JJ, but, you must realize, that, drearyness is rather unappealing. You'd need to import some dreary tunes to fit the mood... And redo all the sprites, too... And even then, it'll be rather... Well... Depressing.

You may be trying to just be honest about the mood your hack is going to give, JJ, but I personally don't like games that are not only depressing, but are advertised as such, as well. The first world will be cheery, no? That's good. It draws the attention of the players, and the title screen should too. The title screen should catch some attention, and if it's dull and dreary, people will be less inclined to play. So, even if world 2-20 (or however many worlds there are) are evil and depressing, you should advertise your game as cheery and the title screen should too, so more people wanna play!

EDIT: and Kyouji, maybe he can get away with making it dreary enough by just playing the castle theme on every single level

So people would play. But personally, I think that I'd wanna play a non-depressing game.

To tell you the truth, JJ, if you were aiming for dark and depressing... you missed. That doesn't look depressing at all, now that I look at it.

Actually.... Now that I think about it, you could call it "Barren Wasteland".

Change the BG, but keep the letters.... theyre still spiffy.

So, do you have any hints you wanna give us towards your next world theme?

The next world is barren, yes, but I prefer to call it industrial. Sort of, ya know, almost post apocalyptic. It's not exactly that, but that's the closest description I can think of.

Oh yeah, the whole rest of the game isn't going to be some dark and dreary thing. Just the main overworld has that theme, for story reasons which you can probably guess. The various submaps and what have you will have their own themes, and I'm sure some of them will have a happier overtone. Though, now that you guys have mentioned it, I might just use the industrial type theme as the last world, but I don't know.

Well, maybe you should make the title screen more cheerful. This way, when you're playing the beginning of the game through the Candy World, the mood of the game will seem very happy and optimistic. Then, when it suddenly changes to dreary, it will provide a good little twist to what was expected from the first world. Personally, I don't think you (in general) should reveal later parts in the game via the title screen, because that may ruin surprises and themes that are figured out later on. However, I think a good idea would be to place little secret, covert things in the title screen that foreshadow to things later in the game, rather than just explicitly exhibiting what will come later. But I think you did a fine job though, the only problem is that it doesn't fit with the title screen atmosphere.

It's not that it's bad, it's just that it lacks cheeriness to match the title screen music!

There *IS* a byte that allows you to change the title screen music. My hack uses SMB3 music, and its title screen music is the starman music.

I think the best solution to the title screen problem is to make one that has almost nothing to do with the game itself. See, with mine, you have no idea what to expect, aside from maybe space travel.

Oh, yeah...the title screen music byte is at $18C7.
