Is there any way to make files on my own computer downloadable via FTP or run a website directly from here?

This way, I could have items much larger than anything the free web hosts allow.
It needs to be configured well so people can't send me viruses. I'm running XP Pro as an OS and the DSL is setup to be always on.

BTW: If the idea is impossible, just delete my thread and forget about it.

Have you considered cheap webhosting ?

I offer webhosting for a measly $5 and I also host this forum for Acmlm for free.

If interested feel free to PM me, respond here, or IM me via SN ErkDog on AOL Instant Messenger

If you weren't hosting this board, you'd probably be flamed for that.

It's possible to host files from your own computer quite easily, but not necessarily a good idea. Even a cable connection will run out of bandwidth quickly with a few people accessing it at once, you need to have it on 24/7, and it can really slow down the computer.

You will probably want domain name so that if your IP address changes your links will not break. A free service:

I don't understand these things at all. It shouldn't be so difficult to run an FTP server or warez site. I'll somehow need to make an IP address and domain name point to a location on my hard drive. Like having "theclaw.(name).com" access "E:\FTP". I might need detailed instructions.

It's not hard at all, it's just really painful on a home computer.
