Well... say a member is abusing the rules of the Story Forum, but that is the only forum that they are affecting. Or that they are breaking that rule constantly that we have in the Rom hacking forum of checking the damned sticky and not to ask about editors (like chris did, three times). Instead of banning them from the whole forum all the time, you could merely not allow them to post in the forum they've been breaking the local rules in. This could save a lot of bitching and complaining in PMs, methinks. Maybe my idea is shit, but hopefully someone likes it. EDIT: 1700... w00t EDIT2: I'm not sure, this may require a hack on Acmlmboard (edited by Kefka on 05-12-04 01:31 AM) (edited by Kefka on 05-12-04 01:33 AM) |

Oh, we've had this suggestion for so long now, and it's good. But it's not going to be implemented in a good while I'd say.

Even the common boards like phpBB usually don't have a bannned-per-forum and not -per-board feature implemented by default There it can be done via user groups (like on phpBB or VBB for example), I think it would not be that hard for someone with SQL knowledge to implement this via PMA or editing the .php files manually. But on the other hand this is not a must-have. The old warn sytem also could apply here; because I doubt a per-forum ban would be useful; the old warn-system also could help, when given from the Story Forum-mod, in that case Kirbynite |

well even still, if someone is stupid, they are just stupid if they stir up shit in one forum, they will mostly likely just stir shit up in another forum.... and if they only post in Story forum and you deny them that forum then they might as well be banned anyway ..... I mean banning a member from a particular forum just seems kinda silly they should either post right... EVERYWHERE ... or not at all IMO |

Wow, Erk said this. You have your board to do with what you want, but if someone wants a feature, at least try and help them out, Erk, jeez. A good use for this would be if they're messing with, say, the Story Forum for the point of using Erk's example, but they are a good poster in other forums. A few users aren't happy with the SF posting from the user as of late, and many mods find it to be... offtopic. However, he/she isn't spammy [and is actually a good poster!], this would be a good idea... In the board database, there's a table named "forummods", with three columns, if I recall correctly... Forum ID, User ID, and powerlevel. Setting these [Forum/User ID is ovbious, powerlevel to -1] should, in theroy, ban them from the forum. In practice, how ever, it seems to mod them of that particular forum . . . It shouldn't be too terribly hard to make a few changes to it [for instance, just adding an if statement to it on the main page to check if it's -1 instead of if it exists, same with thread.php and more importantly newreply.php, just checking if it's a forum mod [it might do it already, even!] and changing it to give the banned message. Using this MIGHT be easier than redoign it entirely, so if you decide to doit good luck. (edited by Xkeeper on 05-12-04 07:35 PM) |

I was thinking about account restrictions a while back.. To prevent users to do some things, like, for instance, lock their header and sig, so they can't edit them anymore, and therefore can't fuck up the board tables if they don't know shit about HTML... Or if their layout is really bad (eyes hurting) and they won't change it when you tell them to. |

well, gandalf's suggestion seems sound. erk makes a valid point, though; the trouble to implement this may not be worth it, considering that only a few people are bad in only one forum. besides, they could be warned via PM. as for stifu: if you're capable of locking a user's post layout (which would, presumably, require administrator-level access), you're probably capable of editing the actual layout yourself (if they won't do it themself) |

Certainly, but why would I want to bother and fix all their layout ? Why would I want to give them the satisfaction of having a decent layout if they didn't do shit to have one, and even ignored my warnings to fix theirs ? As for the system, it'd have to be made once, then after that it'd all be about checking boxes. Faster and more effective to me. |

That still wouldn't prevent them from starting again... Also, I'd still need to edit all the messages posted with the shitty layout... Or run a SQL query to wipe all of his posts header and sig... But I guess that if users ignore warnings that much, they ought to get banned. |

Banning them from that thread will not stop all who that do this, give them a timeout like little children that disobey. then if thay dont stop afterwords then you ban them. I kinda got that treatment on the 1st board I was on.

You know Kefkas idea aplies to me. I got banned twice because of the crazyness domain, but everywhere else I have never got warned. I think this would be a good idea, but I try not to post in the craziness domain much anymore so that works too. |
