I have been using other partition tools succefully, and it was something called QTparted (which is very userfriendly ). But that was with a FAT partition.

3rd party tools can be safer than 1st party tools, but then I hadn't heard of any failed case of convert. So it's probably quite safe anyway.

The only problem is that block cluster is the same as FAT32's and not the larger NTFS one for more efficient file access, so read times will be about the same. If you increase cluster size AFTER the conversion it'll be great though.

He's reffering to the inability to backup data... not having a data backup method, yet still considering it in any way important, is an extremely contradictory idealism...

If you can't convert, backing up and formatting is a good option (well, really the only option). Get some cheap (but reliable) CD writer, you can return it when you're done if need be. Buy some CDRWs. Get WinRAR (trial version's fine, though I suggest you get the full version, it's nice), compress everything to RAR with best compression split to 700MB, and copy it to CDRW. (Don't use CDR, it's a waste.)

WinRAR sucks. Get 7-Zip, better compression and it's free.

since you created it...if you say so...

anyways, I use the zip support in WinXP...i'm too lazy to install any of the other software unless I download stuff in a non ZIP file...which rarely happens
