I don't know where this thread should be so I just put it here.
I get onto Acmlms this morning and check a few of my threads.
My thread layout had all the images as part of angelfire, but angelfire wouldn't let me use them, except the images come up as "This image hosted my Angelfire" so now I have to settle with a plain layout no black in the background, no user pic.
Where else can I store images so that they don't come up with Angelfires advertisements?

You did use the txt extension trick right? Looks like Angelfire found out that users where tricking it that way.

I would suggest trying another host, Tripod dosen't do that... as for now.

Eh, just give me one of the image urls.

You see, the minipic I have is a gif file that looks like a txt file for tripod. That's how I get around things on Tripod.

Let's say you have an image named 'pic.jpg' on some crappy free host.
<img src=www.crappyfreehost.com/pic.jpg> returns an ad. ONO!
<img src=www.crappyfreehost.com/pic.jpg?> returns the actual image. This works for every free host I have ever seen; only one that it didn't work which was someone's personal server. (And if it doesn't work, adding random numbers after the question mark can help.)

I would try using another host. I have used angelfire in the past and it just shits me. I moved to tripod, geocites and 147 and none of them would ever work for me. I just dicided to pay and haven't had any troubles since.

Hyperhacker that didn't work for Tripod. At least not when I tried it.

But the TXT trick works fine on it...

I never heard of your way, HyperHacker.

Eclipse, not everyone wants to pay to host some images.

Angelfire, eh? Just ditch the place and get a new site host.

Worked with me when I was using Msn Groups (that was a pain)

Since this topic is about Angelfire, I have a suggestion for the admins:

Notify users who have the "image hosted by Angelfire" showing up instead of their post background to change it. Those posts are hard to read.

The problems with them affect me too, I'm currently stuck using none of my layout images. That's why I made an account in the first place (Geocities won't allow image linking either).

I did delete all the images and stuff that were hosted by Angelfire, so now what I post is readable, but everything I posted before I removed the images is still unreadable.

My layout was using Angelfire also, and my posts were unreadable. Stupid Angelfire indeed..... Now because of this, I'm tempted to email them a complaint, and move to another host (paid if need be) JUST BECAUSE of that sillyness.
I just went over to Photobucket.com and registered a free account. Their sole purpose is to host pics and allows remote linking. I must say, it is the greatest site Ive seen, and hope it stays around.

Worked for me. They often block it even if I try to go to a site from Google or an image from the site it's on, and that gets around it every time.

What's the bandwidth cap on photobucket.com anyway?

My old status.php I had in my profile... So it works even on tripod...
The "hosted by tripod" image probably was in the cache last time I tried that trick.

Kitten Yiffer: that comes up with the 'hosted by tripod' image, to me. I doubt I had the original in-cache, so this more-or-less proves that the empty querystring trick (putting a "?" at the end of the URI) doesn't work, not for tripod anyway.

It does work but only on Mozilla browsers. In IE that trick won't work.

Yes, ask Acmlm to make a MYSQL query on your old post headers/signatures. I have seen it done on other boards...

It's not working in Mozilla either. I think I had trouble with Tripod too, sometimes I have to add random numbers at the end. Or, maybe it's cache-related.
Testing...
It's not doing it anymore. I suppose it does have to do with the cache then, but when it does it with hits from Google and I stick it in the URL, it works every time. Weird...
Maybe if I had a server to host it on, I could make a script for that. You give it the URL and the referrer to send, and it bypasses it. (Ex: <img src=http://www.server.com/remoteimg.php?img=www.tripod.com/somepic.jpg&refer=www.tripod.com>

And I'm ahead of Acmlm, w00t.

Active he is, it's quite easy passing him... anyway.

I think I should get a host somehow, heh I have even been considiring making my own server. But that is stretching it. (but I do have a spare computer which is powerful enough just for image hosting... )

Now it's only a matter of time before Tripod blocks the TXT trick to.
