| Honestly, I would have criticized it even more if Josh Hartnett or Nick Stahl had gotten the role. Remember, Thomas Anderson was supposed to be a computer geek/hacker/et cetera. | I used to criticize Keanu a lot, too... But I've seen him do different parts- he can, indeed, act with emotion... After watching the Marix Trilogy, I realize that Neo as a character was probably supposed to be wooden at times. After all, he seems to be half human, half machine....At least as a general idea...He's too serious as a character to begin with, and he gets more so later on. Bah, whatever. I would've loved to see Will Smith as Neo. Yea, that woulda been awesome. A bit too comical, maybe.  It woulda been weird later on, though, when his wife starts goin' out with Morpheus (basically) and he would be with Trinity...Yea, that'd be weird. But some of the characters in the Trilogy did show quite some character, opposed to many stiffs out there. |

| Keanu was appropriate for this movie because he always seems so confused. If something like happened to me I would constantly be surprised by everything. Replacement? Edward Norton maybe. I just loved him in Fight Club and both are edgy movies. |

| Keanu was best for the series. In my opinion, his less than great acting suited the Matrix's less than great attempt at decent sequels. As for Will Smith, I like him too much to even suggest him playing Neo. Sure it is a profitable investment, but really...I just can't even imagine Will playing such a wooden part. Keanu's bad acting went hand in hand with the storyline of the Matrix sequels. The movie was more on storyline and special effects than acting. They could've placed a wooden plank to play the part and nobody would have not noticed until 'bullet time' when the plank falls down and breaks. I'll just sum my entire post in a sentence or so. Keanu sucks as an actor and so did the Matrix as a trilogy. |

I think Reeves did a reasonable job. I wasn't even paying attention to his acting much or how bad or good it was  . I was just into the movie and all those effects since thats where they focused on more.Will Smith? That would have been funny but I don't think he'd suit the part too much. Everything was so serious. That wouldn't have been right for him . |
