Former Arizona Cardinals safety Pat Tillman was killed in Afghanistan yesterday. He quit football two years ago to serve as an Army Ranger, turning down millions (he was a very good player, setting the Cardinals record for tackles in 2000). He was 27.

very unfortunate thing...very unfortunate thing indeed. this goes to show you there is more to life than making money.

however, because of this event, I wonder whether good things or bad things come out because of this...

I have respect for him for turning down a big-money career to serve his country - you don't see that happening every day.

He will be missed.

Tillman rocks. Giving up football for his country, not to mention the money and football involved. RIP Pat.

This story teaches us that our sports "heroes" are not heroes at all like Michael Jordan or John Elway. Pat Tillman was a real hero. Tillman gave up money and football to help out our country in Afghanistan. He will be missed by his family, friends, teammates and everyone esle that knew him. He will also be missed by the whole state of Arizona and the rest of the United States of America.

Ruby Weapon, you're entirely right, but I'd like to further point out that, though Pat Tillman gave up a tangible and substantial sum to go to war, every other member of every other army does the same thing. While we remember the unimaginable sacrifice of a great football player and a great American, let us also remember those who didn't set sports records but made contributions far more important.

I saw this on CNN in Canada...some things you will remember forever, and when I think of the war in Iraq, I think of Pat Tillman.
