Hi,

As many of you know I've been using linux for a while now...

And I just installed XP Pro out of pure boredome..

I'm pretty impressed and pretty not.. alot of "please reboot now" shit.. some things never change, eh?

How do you people keep up such good uptime with that crap? Hehe.

Anyways I was just wondering what some good games and software i should use?

I just installed the usual stuff I used in linux (Firefox, Gaim, XChat, Emacs etc.)

if you were installing the OS, of course you had to reboot several times. If you had to do that with software, then I dunno. I typically don't do it.

anyways for useful software, refer to this: http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=497

I think by that he means a lot of 'you must reboot for the changes to take effect'. Buncha BS that is.

XP does take some time to get used to. I once installed it, but then the modem no longer worked. Had to completely remove the OS and go back to 98SE for reinstalling 2000. I'm using that. XP should work great now since I don't need that modem to connect anymore (as in DSL). I'll try later. Changing your OS due to errors isn't fun. Funny enough, my copy of XP Pro came from Kazaa.

Linux... I got a version running but had no idea how to use it. That computer went back to 95.

Games, I would recommend the GTA series (GTA3, and GTA: Vice City), Mafia, Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam (if your PC can handle it), I used to love the NASCAR games by Sierra (Not the EA ones), then there's Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy, Return to Castle Wolfenstein (which I didnt care for personally), and many others! firingsquad.gamers.com has good game reviews.

As for software, what are you trying to do? Winamp is almost required. TorrentStorm is the best torrent client, I use Paint Shop Pro 7 and Animation Shop 3 almost exclusively for image and gif editing, ResHacker to fuck with things like ntoskrnl.exe (startup screens and dialog) and explorer.exe, VirtualDub for editing AVIs, and much more...
