Here's another question I want to ask you guys: How important is it to you in collecting extra lives? Do you build up lives in the beginning for later, or do you just pretty much go with the flow? How about the method in collecting them -- coins, mushrooms, cards (SMB3), bonus games, or all of the above? Talk about the importance of collecting lives here.

If you know where you are going and what you are doing, then lives are pretty much pointless. Though I collect them whenever I can, and go back when my supply gets dangerously low... Meh, lives are just a thing to fall back on from fKitten Yiffer Dont fail, dont lose a life. Simple! |

It all depends on your personal skill. If youre like me though, you only need enough lives for you to last until you get pissed off and give up.

I would collect as many lifes and all what-not in every level. I always have, and it helps during the game

I blaze. However on occasion I will pick up an extra life, although usually I don't need them .... ... of course, that's with the old games [SMB - SMB3, SML]... With SML I always go for the bonus round though =P |

When i played SMB3 a few years ago i used to pick up many extra lives in the beginning of the game. It was on the second stage in the first world where the goombas came out of the pipe. I could collect extra lives forever at that place. |

Lives are important to me, because most of the Mario games I play these days are romhacks, which tend to be rather difficult...

because I've played the game so much, it is now really hard for me to mess up several times in a level. as a result, i typically take them as I go. in addition, because I know the trick to getting lives consistenly, it doesn't matter.

Whenever I play SMB3, take every life and coin I can take from a level. Even if I don't need them... Sometimes I do the 1-up tricks. But more for fun than use. I seldom get the game over screen. (or lose a life at all... I maybe should try getting through the game without losing a life someday ) (edited by Kitten Yiffer on 04-22-04 05:21 PM) |

Why get extra lives? That adds extra time to the game. My goal is to beat the game as fast as is humanly possible. So... screw lives... if I die, then next time, I'm correcting my slight error and blazing through that bitch!

It depends on the game. As for SMW hacks I try to collect as many of 1UPs as possible. But there is nothing better than using some situations to let the game work out the lives for you: For example in SMB3 or YI, I like to get a spot where unlimited enemies emerge (pipes), between the point where they drop initially and itself should be a pipe. Now kick a shell in there: it bounces back and forth, hitting one enemy after another ... 100, 200, 400 800, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, 1UP, 1UP, 1UP, ... So you can get 999 lives in Yoshi's Island reallys easily while drinking a cop of coffee meanwhile, since there is not time limit Then you're well suited for harder levels like Extra - 3 or Extra - 5 |

I usually don't need extra lives because I consider myself a top-notch player (This is TRUE-I beat SMB in a half hour without warping once). I only collect extra lives for the fun of having that many lives. Currently in SMA2 I'm at 537 or something like that.

Originally posted by SMWExpert I'm at 725 in SMA4... but of course, I get five lives at once a bunch... and then, often I go to World 8 so I can get my jump on! [100, 200, 400, 800, 1000, 2000, 4000, 8000, then usually about 1upx10] I love bullets constantly flying at you And the scores been maxed out since about a month after I got the game |

If I'm not trying to speed, I'd collect as many as I can. In most games, I'd speed through it first, and then I'd go back after I beat it and get all the 1-ups until I have the maximum.

Depends on how easy the game is. If its Mario I will breeze through it. Most games now-a-days dont really use the life system. Not the games I play anways.

I collect everything I can. Power-ups, lives, coins, whatever. Bash most of the baddies, too. It's more fun to do stuff than just run from left to right real fast dodging stuff. However, saying that, I don't actually *die* either. It's very rare that I die in a Mario game. And it's usually when I'm being cocky or something. Then again, The Lost Levels... I'd probably die a few times on that, because it's the hardest and it's the one I've played the least. But Super Mario World? Hell no. Super Mario Bros. 3? Very unlikely. Yoshi's Island? Only in two or three of the Extra stages. But I still love grabbing the goodies. Mmm, points. |

I never worry about lives in SB3. Used to when I was little. Coins? Yea, sure, I get coins. 1-Ups? If I know where they are, I nab 'em. Bonus games? Of course, when I can do them right. I just go with the flow. |

As for SMB3, I collect most 1-Ups cuz I go through every friggin secret area and collect everything I can, even if I don't need it. I usually end the game with somewhere at 80 lives.
