In Zelda 1, has anyone figured out what that crazy old man means when he says "10TH ENEMY HAS THE BOMB"? Almost 20 years later, still no walkthrough I've seen has published the answer. (PS Also, when the old man says "LETS PLAY MONEY MAKING GAME", has anyone realised that Link has committed the crime of underage gambling? Imagine what would happen if the old man said "LETS PLAY BORROW HIS CAR" or "LETS PLAY LIQUOR STORE ROBBERY" ) |

In that dungeon, I think the 10th room you enter, when you kill all the enemies, you get some bombs (Either that, or the tenth enemy you kill in the dungeon, it gives you bombs, no matter where you are) Yeah, I think that's it. Every 10 enemies you kill, you get some bombs, I think. I hate the money making game. I never win, and I wind up penniless. |

That's why it's called "MONEY MAKING GAME"... Nintendo definitely wouldn't endorse gambling back then, so they just said it was a game. :\ (Didn't stop me from losing all my rupees at some points.) |

The maximum of rupees was 255, right, and arrows used up rupees if I was not mistaken

It was 255 back in those days (FF in hex), so yeah. Plus they used arrows although if you were loaded with cash, that wasn't so bad. I rarely used arrows anyways.

Originally posted by =^___^= Worth noting: It's still called "MONEY MAKING GAME" in the recent rereleases, only the old man now speaks proper English ("LET'S PLAY A MONEY MAKING GAME"). Which dungeon was that in, anyway? I suppose I could play to that point in the GBA version and see if it makes any more sense, since they did clean up the translation for that port. |

BUY SOMETHIN' WILL YA! On topic, I always cheated on the money making game and used save states. So I always had 255 rupees, the blue ring, etc. |

When I play Zelda, usually the first things I do are to go get the 100 rupees from the top right, buy the candle, get the 100 rupees near Level 3, get bombs, get 3 hearts, and get enough rupees to get the blue ring. Then I start beating dungeons.

Originally posted by Clockworkz Really? I thought it would be more complicated than that. The first theory I had was that the 10th enemy listed in the instruction booklet spawned bombs when you killed it. But I don't think that enemy gives bombs (I'm @ school so I don't have the booklet on me, nor do I remember what the 10th enemy was). Also, I don't know why rupies were used as arrows. Surely the NES could handle just one more byte in memory? Or is it completely filled up as it is when you play? |

Link is a super-awesome fletcher. He can attach a rupee to the front of a stick, some feathers on the back, and fire it in the space of 1/2 a second. Win? |
