Or, at least, they will be... I dunno, random browsing. I guess it doesn't surprise me either. |

Weird.. so what would light up then? They would still be light bulbs, wouldn't they? Just.. of a new energy source.

Lasts 50 times longer than bulbs, and is more energy effeicient. Pretty good for an accidental discovery eh? |

Does this mean that energy-efficient, long-lasting LED TVs could be on the horizon? Instead of phosphors, the backside of the screen would be coated with these micro-LEDs. I'll bet the picture quality would be amazing.

Heh, using it in tables when the power is down. And in forks and knives when eating. Would be nifty if you could do this on walls in houses to get rid of lamps. |

I hope they produce them in mass soon so it's not too much expensive. I like the possibility to choose a variety of colors. The article says that it can reduce the energy consumption of the U.S. by 29%, but it doesn't say how much energy do they use compared to a light bulb, they only say the percentage of all machines and equipment that use electricity. I know there are "energy save bulbs" (i think they're fluorescent ones) that only use 20% or less of the energy of a normal bulb (pics of these later). Still it's very interesting, we just have to wait how much will they cost and if they consume less than these "energy save bulbs". |

By what I see, it looks like you can turn your window into a light bulb... Huh?

To be honest, I'm not too surprised about the fact that LED's will replace lightbulbs in the future. Only bad thing I can think of is that they don't generate heat. But then there is more effective ways of heating a room up than a lightbulb right?

I think it´s good too because there´s too much heat in my dorm as the heat doesn´t work properly. I have the heat regulator on a snowflake but it´s getting cold outside so the heat is normal now. Even when I have the computer on. |

Yeah, I like the not-heating-up idea. It means you can change one that just blew without waiting for it to cool off.

A lot of awesome things were invented by accident, actually. Though I can't think of any off hand. |
