I'm using a sprite sheet and MSPaint. To animate, I am using ULead GIF animator. How do I make it so my sprites don't show any white background?

I haven't used ULead, but there should be an option to enable transparency... if you do that, then you should be able to erase the white background and make it transparent.

I did enable the transparency, but it still showed white in the final result and the preview...

Right, you still have to get rid of the white background. See if an eraser tool will work. Does ulead have basic tools like that? You also might be able to pick one color to eliminate entirely (i.e. replace with transparent)

Lovely...new people in the GIF animating biz.

What he's getting at is that there should be a way to set the transparency color (in your case it looks to be white) in the current GIF. Now there SHOULD be a way to do that (if anything take a look off of a site online that explains the use of ULead; a tutorial if you will)...and if there isn't then I dunno what's wrong with ULead...because every GIF animator I have seen has the ability to set a transparency...otherwise why make a GIF to begin with since the large majority of them consist around it.

If ULead does in fact pose a problem, however, (I wouldn't know...I don't use it)...I'd try look for something like Jasc Animation Shop...see if that doesn't help you along a little better.

Reeves: Read the FAQ.

Simply use Microsoft GIF Animator, it only has the most basic features and is no match with Jasc's Animation Shop Pro or Ulead GIF animator, but for setting up GIFs easily without effects (anyway effects are useless in originally ripped sprites from games like Hiryuu's or my avatar ).
Unlike ASP and Ulead it's free and can be downloaded here, only about 1 MB in size
http://www.keyscreen.com/KeyScreen(s)6/MicroGIFanimator.htm

NOTE: The transparency should be set in the GFX program for each frame and not in the GIF animator
