I've had this problem for almost a year now, and I just dealt with it, and missed out on all of the great .PNG images of the world. Images of this file format do not load for me in ANY browser and I honestly have no clue why, or furthermore, how to fix it. If anyone can offer some insight, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

Which OS do you use and what browsers have you tested? But it sounds like libpng isn't installed or isn't installed correctly. Or perhaps some firewall or proxy is filtering them out. |

I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 2, and I've tried it with just about everything from AOL's browser to the browser in my html editor.

As I recall, AOL uses some kind of image compression to "speed up" page loading, which might be interfering with PNGs somehow. Try looking for an option to disable it. Unfortunately, I've only used AOL a few times at a friend's house, so I can't tell you exactly where it is, or if it even exists anymore... |

Well, the AOL "Browser" (which is really only a skin for IE . . . ) setting should only affect that particular program, but go ahead and turn off the remote cache.

BMF, the AOL image compression thing is only true for those who use AOL with 56k, and it can be turned off in the preferences. The fact that this happens when I'm online and AOL is closed tells me it really doesn't have anything to do with AOL. Something worth mentioning is that the other log-in names on my computer can load these PNG images without a problem. And, er, how would I go about turning off "remote cache"? If this does nothing, any other ideas? I appreciate your responses. |
