The traffic got pretty bad down here. Going north-bound at I-10, traffic is insane. A 30 minute drive could take at least 2-3 hours. People from Corpus Cristi were ordered to evacuate away from the coast but according to the meteorologists on the news, Rita has shifted towards Florida and the evacuees don't have to go north afterall (assuming Rita will continue going towards the Atlanic). There's supposed to be a huge storm this weekend so... I won't take my chances of getting a fried computer.

Ooh, this is going to be bad for gas prices. Current price here is $1.2x9/L (the sign is missing a digit ), and the highest I've seen is $1.349/L. Supposedly tomorrow it'll be anywhere from $2.009/L to $2.509/L depending how much damage occurrs, since offshore oil rigs are being evacuated and such. Why don't they just admit there's no oil left and start making electric cars?

Yeah, my dad was saying on the news gas prices here could hit $5 if it hits those refineries in Texas..which is crazy if that'd happen. I saw a few things about it on the net at news sites, it's at a category 4 now right? At least people are trying to leave as soon as they can. Hopefully people won't stay behind..or people have enough money and stuff to evacuate.

We're all gonna get screwed over with gas. This hurricane sounds pretty strong.. not looking good for those people in Texas. But it sounds like they're LISTENING a little better this time, which is good. |

Interesting thing on the news about all of this, and how the number of hurricanes has gone up over the past couple years. Some people say its global warming, some people say its a cycle of ups and downs... I say its only a bad year. . Gas has stayed pretty steady for now... driving is getting so expensive. |

Gas prices went from $2.50/gal. to $3.11/gal. back to $2.59/gal. and I'm thinking it will get higher after Rita hits the Gulf Coast.

..And it's turning towards New Orleans. AGAIN. That poor city can't handle another bashing. |

Towards Louisiana, not necessarily New Orleans. :\ The problem is at the moment, they're under a tropical storm warning; and the rain from that can still topple the levees. |

I wouldn't worry about that. So far as I know, Zordon has already been contacted about this. *bursts in to laughter* Seriously though this is sad as I have distant family all over texas and Louisiana (though so far as I know none of them suffered from Katrina). There's almost no food or gas for sale down here. I've stocked up as much as I could since I cannot very well expect there to be more in a week's time, let alone assume that the hurricane will not hit the downtown area.

... well, my grandfather was watching the Weather Channel when I was on my way out to go to town today, and it seems that the storm is veering towards striking Louisiana mostly, I feel horrible, it seems sad to me that the storm would hit so close right after Katrina, I really thought it was going to be hitting Texas mostly (which overall seemed a lot better braced for Rita than Louisiana is right now), but I guess things happen as they do. Oh well, what do we say anyway when it comes to the weather?

When it rains, it pours. Storm could still go any way with only a matter of hours until impact. Looks to still be hitting Texas moreso than Louisiana. |

There\'s some flooding there but only in isolated areas. It\'s the wind that\'s pushing the water over the levees, not the rainfall itself. Apparently it\'s going to set back repair efforts by 2-3 weeks... but it could have been a LOT worse at least there. |

The good news is that the damage isn't as much as expected and few damages to oil refineries. I just found that out now and that it was downgraded to a tropical storm. Before I found that out now, I was watching something about it on the weather channel yesterday but it was just going back and forth between towns..before it hit though.

Good that it didn´t do much damage because it´ll still take years to build up the city again. If they get a break from these hurricane rampages. |

It's too bad that the southern USA is being hit with all these hurricanes - first Katrina, then Rita. Hopefully there won't be another one. Good thing Rita didn't do as much damamge as Katrina though. It's good to live it Canada, we only get the aftermath of it

Canada's cold West Coast of the USA is where it's at Yeah, at least the rain will start to let up so there won't be even more flooding but there still is some. The earlier government response to it is even better. |
