You may notice that when you click 'mark forum read' it takes you to index.php?action=markread&id=42 or something like that, and loads the main page. This can be a problem sometimes. I often come to the board, read one or two forums, mark them read, then just leave the page open in a tab and come back and read more later (if I'm waiting for a reply or some such). Problem is it's easy to forget to click 'Main' again, so when I refresh, it marks the forum read before I've read it. An improvement would be that the board redirects you to just plain index.php after marking a forum read, so that this can't happen.

I've gotten into the habit of returning to index.php right after I mark any forum read, because I did that a few times as well. But now I'm in a good habit, so |

I don't think I've ever bothered to mark forums as read or not, then again, there are only certain forums I reply to, so it might not be as big of a deal for me as it would be for others, especially staff.

I make this mistake plenty of times myself, it would be really nice if something was done to make it easier to avoid this.

It's not exactly hard to do. if($action = 'markforumread') header("location: index.php"); or something along those lines.

Well, it has to go to index.php?action=markread&id=42 , since that tells it what to do. Otherwise, it wouldn't actually mark the forum read. However, that part of index.php could be modified to be similar to when you make a post, so that instead of printing the index, it prints a note along the lines of, "Forum $forumname has been marked as read. Returning you to the index.", and then have it redirect you to index.php.Hmm... I may mess with this on my board... |

Well you would do the redirection after the SQL query that actually marks it read.

Multiple ways to do it, all easy, and a good idea. Don't exepct it to get implimented. As a matter of fact, expect a warning and/or ban for it... |
