Nintendo decided to smoke pot one day, which happened to be the exact same time they designed Revolution's controller...
Compliements to Paraplayer for finding the link for me...

http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-23521-2567-x-x-x&tag=gs_gc_flashtop_read&body_pagenum=1

I'm sure you can all join me in saying "What the hell?"
The controller is physically moved to control the action on the screen,
and it also comes with an attachable analog stick.

I'm not sure if I should channel surf with this thing or to play Mario...

Can't knock it until you try it...

It looks weird. It definitely beats out the PS3 boomerang controller but it's really... um... odd. Not a "OMG this sucks they're doomed" odd but a "OK... so how does this exactly work?" odd.

Major props for the all-white look if that's what they end up going with however. You could easily slap the Apple logo on it.

So... I'm cautiously optimistic. Need to see it actually, you know, IN ACTION before making a final decision.

Colleen, you won't be limited to just white!
I know that the controllers come in like at least four different colors and the system comes in black or white.
It does resemble something Apple would make... And its ironic that they are involved with the PS3, not the Revolution.

That's... interesting. I agree with Colleen; it looks pretty damn weird, but could be pretty neat. Though I know it'll take some getting used to... motion sensitivity could be kinda odd to work with. (Though it's brilliant how you can turn it sideways for retro games, and the LEDs that tell which controller is which player are genius.)

Though regarding the airplane demo... wouldn't it make more sense to make it work like a helicopter control? You hold it straight up and down, and tilt whatever way you want to go, like a giant joystick.

Anybody with a PS2 remote has already tried it out.

Remote != controller.

This is easily the worst controller design I've ever seen, and I've seen the Dreamcast controller. Ok, the PS3 controller sucks too........

As Jay Leno would say, "Are we so lazy now that we have to play games with only one hand now? Or do we play two different games at once? Most people don't have enough hand-eye coordination to watch TV and chew at the same time."

Give it a chance before you judge the design.
My first reaction was "Yuck."
But I thought about it and it seems like it will rock.

Apparently people say it's comfortable and you get used to it, so... yeah.

The games (and how the controller interacts with them) will be the key test. When that happens is anyone's guess.

Look closely, it has the word home for one of the buttons. Just because the it says it's the controller doesn't mean it's true. When they tested the game that could also be the only thing availiable to play with. Just keep waiting.

I was in like... shock and such... Sion's lost his faith, but I'm giving Nintendo the benefit of the doubt.

I can see a Zelda game being made with this... you'd be doing sword slashing motions... and truly aim your arrows...

Though, I still see third party ports being shut out..

No, that's the main controller. A second controller/attachment can be plugged into it though... such as an analog stick.

Yeah, third party ports will be pretty scarce until devolopers actually figure out how the controllers work.

In my opinion, Nintendo has always had the best controllers. They always manage to keep the learning curve rather level. I remember when I first played SSBM I got used to the controller after my first death. And I've never had any blisters or anything like I had with ps2 and ps1(several occasions).

Re: 3rd party ports

I'm holding out hope that they come out with at least a fighting addon that would attach via the same port the analog stick would. Maybe the controller/remote could even just slide inside a bigger arcade style joystick?

The more I imagine what can be done with it, the more I anticipate it.

Take note on the fact that you can rotate the remote 90 degrees and it's now an NES controller.

What the fuck IS that? It looks like a goddamn TV remote.

Can´t knock it until you try it, as Colleen said. I hope it won´t be too terrible to control certain games.

There are...4 buttons. wtf with that?
And mcw is right. The "Can't knock it until you try it..." logic is flawed.

"It definitely beats out the PS3 boomerang controller"
I went wtf when I read this, then I remembered where I was.

"Two small sensors placed near the TV and a chip inside the controller track its position and orientation, allowing the player to manipulate the action on screen by physically moving the controller itself."

Somehow I was expecting that. And hey, what stops Nintendo from releasing a "normal" controller later on. Or maybe that's what they're plannng. So far it seems like the revolution can use Gamecube controllers. (althought probably just for backwards combilitliy)

But it's orginal, and you can hold it like a NES controller.

Well, it's so orginal I don't know if I should be excited or worried.

Edit: Reading through the article, I can see how this thing can work pretty well. It opens up new ways to play games, and to be honest controllers have pretty much not evolved much lately. Let see when devolopers get's their devolopment kits... Althought some of it's idea seems to be taken from Power glove, but technology have improved alot since thoose days.
