I've both seen and used one, and let me say this, I'm quite happy with my PC. <3

And hey... the truth doesn't get old.

Me, because it isn't. Some of the module changes made after 98 -really- screwed up software compatability, though not to the point of not working, just fucking up a lot.

Windows is not going to become OS X any time soon. I'm sorry, but if you think that all there is to OS X is the eye candy, you REALLY need to go and educate yourself about OS X.

As for Windows being influenced by Mac OS (Classic OR X) well, that's been happening for years. Where do you think your Recycle Bin comes from? Mac OS has had a Trash can since the beginning of Mac OS -- back in 1984. Windows didn't have the Recycle Bin until Windows 95 was released...

Uh, a lot of OS X is eye candy. There's a lot of added functionality, but come on, anyone who's used it for more a few months can see that most of the production went into how it looked.

MS has been influenced by Apple in several ways; however, it's gone back and forth.

Hrm, I guess my hardware in my system is very well supported by Windows then? Maybe if you buy generic crap, you have an assload of problems. Buying name-brand products (Gigabyte, MSI, Sapphire, AMD, nVidia, etc) must really cut down on stability and lag issues

And I'd use a Mac, but you know, I do more than just surf the web, check email, and use IM clients. I game.

You need a good self fucking. You obviously don't know what the hell you're talking about; games are commonly released on both the Mac and windows.

Yes, there's a mac WoW.

1. The state or quality of being stable, especially:
C. Reliability; dependability.

Comaptibility != Stability. And for the list of pre-2k/XP software compatible with XP, it's FAR greater than the list of pre-OS X software that's compatible with OS X. Trust me.

As for games... not the ones I play

# Windows XP/Me/2000/98 (NT and 95 NOT supported)

Note that MAC isn't even LISTED. This is the game I play most often, too.

Some games are released on the Mac, yes.

For the game part: It's actually far more common for developers to release a game only for one platform in the stores. And then later provide the engine for other operating systems, sometimes even with source code so you could do your own port!

Actually, Windows XP is pretty stable so long as you don't hack it or use IE. But of course, it's no fun if you don't hack it. But you still do need to reboot every now and then to install updates, lest you get nailed with a lot of viruses.

And I don't think this thread needs any more Mac-bashing. Macs are good for some tasks, PCs for others.

Yes, it is obvious that great care and attention to detail went into their OS's look and feel.

Still doesn't mean that that's all there is to OS X. If it were, then frankly it would be useless. Pretty, but useless.

Macs are good. They're not for everybody, but they're good. They're used a lot in both graphic arts and scientific fields, they're excellent for home use, and some people even use them as servers or development machines. I use one, and I love it. It doesn't do everything my Windows PC does, but then my Windows PC also doesn't do everything my Mac does

Say, what's development like on Mac anyway? Is it particularly difficult? If I can develop/port versions of programs I use, I'd probably consider switching. (Except that I don't have the money, but I plan to buy a laptop eventually; maybe I could get a Powerbook or something.)

And how's its command line? Powerful? Simple? Nonexistant?

OSX has command is as powerful as UNIX since command line did not come in until OSX. So I'm not sure what you are eluding to as in power of the command line...

But yeah, UNIX cmd utilities >>>> Windows cmd utilities

Especially because it's a standard to have many different command line options (shell/bash, perl, etc.).

One can use perl has a shell

anyways...Mac vs. Windows is like C vs. Java -- the both have their good and bad qualities

I'd defect from windows if I didn't have many programs that run on it. I've never liked OS emulation and I still haven't found better replacement for Microsoft Word.

Yeah, there's a Mac version of WoW but from what I've seen in the forums, it sucks big time. Some people can't even go to certain areas because it just wont work. I don't know what they mean by "wont work" but that's what they say. There's always bug fixes strictly for the Mac version in every patch too.

Hmm... but that doesn't mean that Macs suck... it means that the programmers who ported WoW to Mac did a really shitty job of it And are doing a fairly crappy job of fixing it too from the sounds of it.

Yiffy Kitten -- this is a little thing, but it's something I love that my Mac does that Windows doesn't -- Expose. Another little thing -- Spotlight. And yet another little thing -- asking for an Administrator password when you install something.

Actually, it's a lot of the little things that make me <3 OS X. They all add up to a really good user experience for me.

Oh, and there's all my abandonware Mac games too Mmm... stuntcopter... deliciously crappy

Ah, that wasn't part of a "macs suck" arguement I was trying to make. WoW for Macs was brought up and I thought I'd put that little sliver of info in here.

Ah, I just thought that the WoW stuff was bought up earlier in this thread (probably just games in general now I think of it) as an example of Mac suckiness.... while I remember, Office X sucks, until you patch it. My favorite bit is how when you change the font, it just crashes for no apparent reason.

Office 2004 is supposed to be better, but I haven't actually *run* it yet, just installed it. (I have little use for "Productivity" software at home....)

Indeed, BF is already for a while on the Mac.
Reason why it isn't listed there is because they didn't port it, Aspyr did.
