| Well, the title says the majority of it... I run on 150k broadband, and I love it  ... I'm on it about, err, 18 hours a day, to tell you the truth  ... The thing is, every 4 or 5 hours, the modem starts to heat up, and my internet speed slows down to that equivalent to a 56k modem... To get it to run at full speed again, I need to turn off my PC and give the modem 30mins to an hour to cool down...Buying a new modem would cost me too much, so has anybody got any decent suggestions as to how I could cool down my modem faster. And please, serious replies only... The fate of my internet relies on this ... |

| I doubt a ventilator wouldn't help you too much, since it only circulates the warmed air already around in the room. But you could try it Where is your modem ? Remove it from any warm source, such as a spot below an open window where the sun shines onto it and warms it even more. (edited by Gandalf The Grey on 04-16-04 04:54 PM) |

| It's between my TV and PC speaker... I rarely have my PC and TV on at the same time... The speaker may be the problem, but I doubt it somehow... They're 10 years old... I'd be suprised if my speakers could generate the energy to make that much heat ...I suppose i could give a ventilator a go... (edited by Avardo4PERMABAN on 04-16-04 04:58 PM) |

| TV and PC speaker meaning TV tuner card and PC speaker, or television set and external speakers? If it's the latter, and the modem is external and heat causes it to screw up, see if you can return it for a new one. |

| Open it up, cut a hole in the case, and install a fan. If you can't/don't want to do that, maybe you could just put a lot of external fans next to it or stick it in a minifridge. |

| Well if you know what you're doing or use a fridge that won't build up a lot of moisture, it should be safe. Otherwise don't do it. Is the modem supplied by your ISP? You could just have it exchanged. |

| Yeah, it was supplied by my ISP... And that's 2 suggestions to do that as of now... So I'll probably go with that idea... I'll say "Ey! Tiscali, change my Sagem f@st modem with a BT Voyager... I don't cere if a Voyager is a 512 modem or not!"... But that's asking for too much... I could ask for lime green though |

| FYI: The fan ||bass linked to is for a PCI slot, it would fit right below an internal modem and provide cooling. If it's external, just get a cheap 80mm case fan, not even ball bearing, and put it next to/on top of the modem. |
