I like Australias grading system. It may be a bit more complicated than the American one but its still good. Being in a differn't part of Australia to Rin we start highschool in year 7. Primary School (Grade 1-6) High School (7-12). It really depends on what part of Australia your in. I know that a highschool in South Australia goes from years 7 to 13. Like Tinzeee i get 6 classes a day. They go for 48 minits. This really depends on the school your at. I have a friend that lives about 2 hours drive away from me and her school has 7 periods a day. |

Geez, Tom... since when do schools have lunch followed by recess? Here's how it went for me... Elementary: 3 periods, lunch, 3 periods. Monday to Friday cycle. High School: In Grades 7-8 it was 3 periods, lunch, 3 periods. After that it was 4 periods, lunch, 2 periods. 7-day cycle. CEGEP/College: When I finished it I was taking 6-7 classes a semester. At least one class a day, and one day I had 4 in a 6-hour block. Never again. As well, in High School classes were set. We had two classes we could pick (out of Chemistry, Physics, Art, Drama and maybe another one) and everything else was set in stone from Day 1. |

Originally posted by Drag My thoughts exactly. Later on in high school here they introduced 'Fitness' that people could take in place of PE, which was more focused around exercise and the science of fitness, which I enjoyed far more - no goddamn sports, no superhuman teachers yelling at you because you can't windsprint for 20 minutes, just a small group of friendly people and the weight room. We also did a little bit of yoga and aerobics later on. Best of all, you could work at your own pace. (edited by Utilityman on 04-17-04 01:40 AM) |

High school classes I took... (Only putting the ones I spent more than a month in, because otherwise it would be way to fucking long) Freshman year: Fall Trimester - Drafting - 80 minutes. Pretty cool class. You drew plans for houses and shit. I sucked at it though and I don't know how I got a 61% (Think it was because the teacher was the teacher i had in preschool). - Geometry 1 - 100 minutes. Easy. The teacher had the intelligence (sp?) of a retarded ape - Transwriting - 80 minutes. Retard writing. Pretty much. I got about a 60% in all my writing and Literature classes (which is bad) so they put me in transwriting. - Science - 80 minutes. Not sure what the science class was exactly Winter Trimester - Freshman Literature. Same as above really. just the people weren't as stupid - Geometry 2. Same as above - wightlifting - Typing Spring. - world geography - science - Freshman Literature 2 - Health In freshman year, I moved twice (got kicked out, got kicked out of where I went). I went to a school for about 3 weeks where i took shit like history, and drama but i moved back to my old school. not adding short term classes Sophmore year - Sophmore English 1 - Sophmore English 2 - Freshman literatrue 2 - Biogoly 1 - biology 2 - cooking - Trig (Which turned in to advanage algerbra since they combined the courses) - Adv. Alg. 2 - Health - World history - World History II - Economics??? Really don't remember. Ok. I only took cooking for about 7 weeks. Before that, I was in spanish but got kicked out. My stepmom kicked me out of the house so I was out of school that first term. Only went to school a whooping 3 months junior year since I dropped out for most of it, and those months I was there I was coming to like once a week. Senior year (Indepent Study student at an ALP). These are the classes I took so far. - Sophmore English - Us history III - US history IV - World History - Ancient History - PE - PE - American literature - World Literature - Intergraded math (since I failed alg1) - Algebra II - Geography I think thats right. I'm still trying to figure out how I could go from av algebra and trig to doing very simple algebra problems. I passed both AA and Trig classes with solid B's (85%). Oh well. Middle school was a joke. High school wasn't much better. They only teach the basics. Sometimes a teacher will go out a limb and try to teach something good but no. the students will go apeshit, refuse to do their homework and fail the test. Than we as the class have to spend another month relearning shit we learned many times before. In Algebra, we spent half the term on one chapter. It was pathetic. History until senior year, was worse. The world war II chapters actually refered to the Allies and the Axis as "The good guys" and "those evil people" and apparently. Japan diddn't do nothing at all between the years 1941 and 1945. And they diddn't even exist as a country before 1941 (they never mentioned them in the wwi section or anything about them attacking china). The american civil war was crap in the history book. The world history book spent 5 chapters (yes, 5) over egypt. AND NOT ONCE DID THEY MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT EYGPT INTERACTING WITH ANOTHER CIVILIZATION! I hate history books. So glad i never have to deal with them now (besides for US history, but the book is a good one though. It actually makes the US look like normal people other than super hero godlike country). |

My schooling has always gone with the A,B,C,D,E,F grading. I normally get A,B,C's. PE was the subjected i most hated, Art being my favorite. Year 11 and 12 is the best, as you get to pick your own subjects Teachers seem to teach less and less. |

Hmm..as of right now I have (Junior year in High School) English 11 Algebra II Health 11 1 semester Computer Technology (that other semester) U.S History Chemistry AP (which sucks...damn class I'm failing and won't pass) Spanish 3 I have to have 2 years of PE to graduate and I need one more semester that I need to take. It was okay. I kinda liked it..I hated our runs All of my classes has always on a grading scale from A to F. We have Fitness. Never took it. They had a rule where if everyone could run their mile under 10 minutes then they wouldn't have to run the mile for a month I think..not sure..so I said forget that. My best time was 9:59. That was my best year in running too. My time from when I got in High school went from 12:00 to 10 minutes and above. I would have gotten better but oh well . |

Originally posted by AppleI'm all for objectivity in school history texts, but naming the Allies as the "good guys" and the Axis as the "bad guys" really does not sound too far off from the truth. I don't care how much you (that's a general "you," not you personally, Apple) love Japan - a mass phenomenon that I still don't understand - but they did execute a dastardly sneak attack on American soil to draw us into the war. Likewise, even if you are German yourself, you must concede that German actions during the war epitomized evil. Perhaps the Allies weren't shining beacons of morality either, but they were more deserving of being called the "good guys" than their enemies. Once again, it's not right to use such titles in a history book, but you shouldn't sound as if you can't understand where the writer is coming from with it. In regards to physical education, I've never had much of a problem with it. The jocks tend to come into their own in gym (as they really cannot shine in any other environment ), increasing their testosterone-fueled malignance, but I can deal with it. I never much enjoyed the periodic, compulsory mile run, but it wasn't terrible. Truly, I look forward to phys ed every day: volleyball, dodgeball, hockey, and the like are tons of fun. |

I have a bit of german in me but that has nothing to do with anything. Its wrong for a history book to say one side is evil and the other is good. Espically if they don't even call them Allies or Axis at all through out the book. |
