It's been about 8 years since I've been in a public school so I must ask, "What is it that American public schools teach?" From what I've seen on this board, the high school curriculum appears to consist of: 1) Engrish/Lamer speak 2) Historical Innacuracies 3) Computer Illiteracy 4) Lunch 5) Study(ing how to be a dipshit/moron) 6) Mathematical Approximations 7) Social Ineptitude 8) Art/Music (but no speech) Of course, the Grade Schools teach: 1) Misreading 2) Misspelling 3) Recess 4) Unamerican History 5) Lunch 6) Recess 7) "KOMPUTIR TYPING LOLOL" 8) Uncreative Art/Tonedeaf Music Seriously, what do you learn in high school these days? What does your daily schedule consist of, and what is considered a "Passing" grade? (30%?) (Not to mention that I had real classes and never a "Study" period, which is like an indoor recess). The average intelligence from users here is mind-numbingly low. Even if "only" 25% (a low estimate) act stupid, their stupidity brings this board down into the depths of hell. Do people here act stupid deliberatly? Does their stupidity make them not know when to quit? Please, renew my faith in the school system, or something! Show me that you're NOT all morons! I know there are MANY intelligent users here, but MANY MORE left because of the amounts of stupidity, uncreativeness, and utter spam shown on this board. |

It is true that there are a lot of dumb people that have been on this board and there are a lot of dumbasses at my school. Here is my schedule: 1st period- N/A 2nd period- N/A 3rd period- English 4th period- DECA 5th period- Lunch 6th period- Teacher's Aide 7th period- Teacher's Aide The reason why I have this easy schedule is because I have worked very hard in school and that I am a lot more intellegent than most. |

I forgot to mention that at my school, there is a child development class. WTF??????????!!!!!!!!!!! To me, that is just plain stupid. EDIT: Yiffy Kitten, the reason why I have a short schedule is because those are the only classes I need to take and that my school is kind of dumb. EDIT #2: DECA is Advanced Marketing. They said that due to my autism, I can't take honors classes at all. From that statement, I would have to agree with you, Yiffy Kitten, 100% percent. Well, a lot of people probably just cheat and get answers and stuff from people for homework and tests and stuff. And teachers pass everyone anyways, at least here. Some students just don't care about learning, and get by with it.

Please. It has nothing to do with schools. Penny Arcade has the answers. |

The great wisdom of Penny Arcade conquers all once again! Three Examples that show the American School system is not totally screwed up: Silvershield, Trunxy/Dogan, and me. At least when I screw up, it's actually an accident. (edited by Jarukoth on 04-16-04 03:08 PM) |

Nope, because kids these days are total fuckwads without the anonymity of the internet. Stupid fuckwads, more specifically. When I was in high school, I didn't really learn shit until my senior year. I took real classes and everything, it's just that they were below me. Senior year I was in Calculus and Physics, though, which actually taught me shit. |

You know what, I take that back. Looking our school's class of 2006 (one year younger than I am), They have amazingly few "smart kids". At least in our class, there is a bit of balance. Quite sad, really. (edited by Jarukoth on 04-16-04 03:18 PM) |

Originally posted by NSNickYes, true. Look at what they wear, how they talk, what their intrests are, and so forth; you'll arrive at only one conclusion: Something is going wrong somewhere. Too much TV? Video games? Internet? BAD PARENTING AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS? Nahhhh, why would the parents and teachers BE RESPONSIBLE and place the blame where it belongs? And teachers go on strike for more money. They make >$45K a (school) year and the grades are STILL going down! If I were in charge, they get paid per the average performance of their students on a standardized aptitude test... the average is multiplied by a base salary, let's say $50,000 a year, and 100% of that salary is earned when the average on the test is 85%. If their students average 75%, they get 20% less which is $40,000 a year. If they average 95%, they get 20% more for $70,000 a year. Every 1% lower or higher than 85% is 2% lower or higher than their base salary. It'd work, and it'd work well, but then the teachers who blow (90% of them) would be poor and still whine. |

Yiffy Kitten, I am not sure if that would actually work. It may motivate the teachers but not the students. Like the students are gonna care about the teacher's salary. Kids these days ditch school, don't turn in homework, they are unmotivated and they just simply don't care. I am trully ashamed of my peers for how dumb most of them are.

I think part of the problem is that there is too much for kids to do nowadays. New toys, TV shows, websites, and other "pure entertainment value" products are being shoved into kids' faces at an alarming rate. Having a bored child at home is almost a crime nowadays. When there's so much fun stuff to do, why bother focusing on school? It's just another boring distraction keeping you away from fun time! I know this is true, because I myself had that problem in school, and my performance suffered as a result. Looking back, I regret not focusing more on my work, and wish there hadn't been so much other stuff drawing me away...maybe I would've been a little more motivated to do well... |
