EDITED?! I don't want an edited version! Eh oh well. I can't want to see Vol. 1 . It came out last week and I still haven't rented it. I wanted to last weekend but it didn't work out so maybe this coming weekend . It looks like a good movie. Tarantino's cool. XD

Quentin Tarantino will release Kill Bill again as one movie later on, and it will be taken from the japanese versions, so I'll just wait for that before I get to see the unedited version.

The Japanese version probably has subtitles when the characters speak english, and no subtitles when they speak japanese.

The one that I have is a DVD-rip, and it has one English subitle (both eng+jap is subbed) and two different Japanese ones. First jap seems to be everything subbed, and the second one only when they talk Japanese. Which is kinda weird, but that's what it is anyways

Eh I'll just wait until the whole Kill Bill movie comes out on DVD like with the unedited version like what Jack Al said. I need to see the 1st one though. I'll ask my dad ahead of time, before this weekend if I can rent it . I'll wait to buy it though. So I can get the unedited one .

I haven't heard if the whole Kill Bill movie will be on DVD. I just heard it would be in some Theaters, but it probably will be released on DVD so that Miramax can make some more money.

I only have one problem with the movie. The daito swords (katana) that they are fighting with are poorly made. The sheath that Lucy Liu (O-Ren Ishii) carries is actually not meant for fighting in and is made of soft ho wood. The swords have no ji and lack a truely pronounced hamon. Also they are reflective which means that they would be heavily stained from blood, as a true samurai blade doesn't have a relective surface because it is covered in oils.

But those are just from a loser who studies swords

Oh the pole arms with a daito on the end?

Those are really interesting weapons...But that's another thread They weren't featured in the movie. I do know that the people of the Masamune school constructed several of them. The best examples are from the Edo period. Although personally, I think that the laquer work is most beautiful in the Shinto period...

The naginata intrigues me. It shows not only that cultures somehow develop the same general "design" of weapon (Japanese naginata and European halberd), but that the Japanese have a tendency to develop them in their best form. I have heard that the Japanese katana has been tested against the European longsword and the katana is much better in battle.

It depends on the battle

The European weaponary can be mass produced far more efficiently than Japanese weaponary, and generally in European cavalary is more effective. Japanese weapons are based on more 1 on 1 combat. The different cultures clash to such an extent, it isn't funny.

What I find really interesting are people who claim to own 'ninja' swords or any of the like. Unfortunately, not enough of them know that there is no unique ninja blade. They used one of the three types of Japanese blade, tanto, wakazachi (SP?) or daito.

As an additional note on the movie, the sword fighting style used is a mixture of iado and kendo, undoubtably, but I have noticed who ever taugh Uma and Lucy also knew a fair bit of Tai-Chi sword manship. The spinning of the blade in relationship to the arching of the back and knees is really quite odd for a Japanese sword style...But then again, the back story says that she is proficient in the 'art of the samurai sword' and if trained in a modern house of the blades, would probably have picked up Tai-Chi movements.

I believe the correct spelling is wakizashi. I had a book that featured that weapon and the correct spelling, but I can't seem to find it so I'm going by memory.

Where do you learn this kind of thing? I'm just wondering, as it seems you are very knowledgeable about Japanese... well, anything.
