Ok, you immature little fuck, we recognize you already. You can stop trying.

I care when others die because I know what it's like to lose someone. And I'm sure the rest of you do too. In this world, a life is the most precious thing we are given.

Human Nature? Nah, because it's will. You can choose to care. It's not involuntary.

Shut up Osama. I don't like what you did back in 9/11.

Also, don't flame. This is your first warning.

I won't care if Dogan gets banned for flaming.
I will be rather shocked if he meets mister hitman shortly next week.

Hey, guess what? You can accept caring when other people die and still be the kind of selfish bastard you want everyone to think you are! It's easy! All you have to do is actually believe the statement I'm about to make!

People care when other people die because they remember those people and know that if they hadn't died, those people could go on doing nice things for them.

Unless of course you meant unknown people who die en masse... In which case, if you don't care, you're normal. Really. You'd have to actually WANT them all to die to be a bastard in that case.

I myself am retired from bastardry, but I'm always willing to help another one along.

(*notes the SamuraiX-bashing* This seems unnecessary. I like him. He's...odd.)

I exist not as one person, but many people in a single body. Do not mistake this for dissociative identity disorder, for I attach no such labels to myself. Instead, I like to think that my identity exists not as a single whole, but as many fragments which can express themselves at various times, depending on circumstance and mood, among other factors. It should be noted that I do have a central, mitigating and dominating shell in which these fragments exist; I am always in control and never "forget myself." Despite that, often times, these fragments of my personality conflict in their viewpoints, opinions and emotional responses.

Depending on which form I've taken, I might have one of several responses to hearing of a random death. Sometimes I would feel terribly disturbed, because I would imagine the person just being gone, and think of the terrible experience their loved ones must be going through. I infer all the hurt and sorrow and it affects me greatly. Other times, when I am feeling more at peace with the natural order of things, I think to myself that death is not something to be feared, not something to cry over. I do have sympathy for those left behind by this person, but I smile warmly, knowing they will eventually move on, content that death is not the end.

On rare occasions, while my most negative fragment domineers, I might scoff or worse. I think to myself, "This random death is meaningless, in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't affect me unless the death is untimely and of someone who contributes to the arts." What scares me is not that this fragment exists within me, but that it might be the truest representation of who I am...

**disclaimer, all just theorizing, I have no definitive proof and little backup **

When people (namely those close to you) die, powerful emotions are brought out for several reasons:
A sudden significant life change. This has a tendency to affect people that aren't used to change, or a certain type of change (someone could be used to moving, but a person that's with them is still a constant, if they were to be removed, it'd be more likely to induce some form of trauma).

Mere self-preservation. It's like a fear/disgust of corpses. Something's dead. Something like me is dead. Oh, shit, is what killed him/her going to kill me too? (this is probably one of the more insignificant reasons, if one at all)

Realization of one's own pending demise. If you know someone, it makes them seem more real, not so much like a random person you don't tend to consider. When they die, it brings that topic up a little more up front and clearly.

Societal pressure. Seeing someone unnerved about the death of someone that was close to you, but not so much to them can seem fairly disrespectful to many people. I think overtime a sort of sympathy pain has become almost required in order to maintain respect among peers. Also, just seeing everybody else so sad tends to get to you (that's the main reason I get sad at funerals, seeing people I know cry makes me sad)

Species... procreation? I'm looking for a word that's like anti-death... Anyway, this is the more hard-wired instinct to preserve one's own species (I think I found my anti-death word ). Someone earlier mentioned a scenario with an unkept kid over a man. I have no doubt that many (not all, of course) people will at least have some inner twitch to help the kid out. (i'll also like to add that most people would be more concerned with the living kid than the dead man, which I think aids my point in some way).

@Slay- If you were to feel for every random, timely death, and care for the demise of your enemies genuinely, I would find you to be a very disturbing person. I find your "negative" view to be the most reasonable.

Memo to both Trunxy and knuck:

QUIT IT.

Seriously, neither of those comments was called for at all (one being a flame, the other being racist), so either contribute something to the thread or stop acting like children. Thank you.

Wouldn't that assume that people are essentially good?

OMFG you just spoiled the ending to a book I'll never read, care about, and which I didn't already hear 500 times before! WHAR IS MAI BAN HAMMER?

Some people care about other people in general. Others don't. I don't care about this thread or how it's proceeding. If you want a mature discussion about it, try a different forum (or maybe a different board altogether). kthxbai.

Anime or cartoons don't have feelings about who there best friends or girlfriends being dead, because anime and cartoons are not real. Real life people who die is very real. Do I care if someone dies in a episode of an animated show? No. If real life when someone dies, it could be sad or not. Maybe people would feel sorry for them because they were very young or something else. Do I care if someone dies that I don't know? Possibly, but not really. Someone in my family that I know that died. Damn right I would give shit.
