| Okay. Basically, I recieved a package of SNES stuff from my ex-girlfriend because she's the greatest person ever. Well, almost the greatest. One of! Anyways. I got a look at the games. Awesome games that I want. One normal controller and a third-party "SuperPad" crappy thing, but I'll live. I was shocked to see the actual Super Nintendo thought. I'd seen images of such a thing online, but I'd never even heard of someone I know owning it or even seeing it. It's much smaller than a Super Nintendo and has no release button, and the "Power" and "Reset" buttons are vertical of each other. I'm interested... what is the history of this thing? And, I have a problem. None of the games would work. I tried cleaning out the machine and all of the catridges... "Mario Paint" will work perfectly, now, but unresponsive to the controller completely. Is this because it absolutely needs a mouse? None of the other games will work. One had a green screen with "Nintendo" and the right sound, but then was unresponsive. Kirby's Dreamland Course will show screwed up screens. But, for the most part, none of the games show anything. Is the machine screwed up, or is it the games? Or is it both? My girlfriend stored it in some closet, it was quite dirty when it came to me... |

| Dunno about the game problem, but the console's easily explaned... it was the 1997 version of the console that was released as a "budget" system, much like the stream-lined NES model that was released near the end of it's run. nes2_sys.jpg>The 1997 SNES. |

| Colleen, your link r teh dead. Mario Paint requires a mouse. There's a hack that lets you use a controller, but it's difficult to use (and you'd need a rewritable cartridge). |

| The Super Nintendo came before the Nintendo 64. It was crazy-go-nuts at the time. I'm sure you have done the dirty deed of downloading ROMs and emulators for one. That'll give you a clear idea of what the games looked and felt like. I have no other knowlegde of what the things like... Even though I have on sitting in a box by the corner of my bed. |

| Ah, you got the goofy looking SNES. Really, if I were you I'd just save a good $30-$40 and look for a real, older model SNES. Besides that, I'm pretty sure that SNES you have doesn't even have an RF adapter slot in the back (or was it missing a video / audio output instead? I know it was one of those). I've never actually seen an SNES that looks like the lower one in Xeolord's post  Honestly, I like the top one better, but that choice may have been affected by that SNES "model" being the only one I've ever had a chance to use  As for the games not working, I'd say your ex-girlfriend keeping it in the closet and letting it get dirty has something to do with that, but if the games and console itself were stored together, then they could both be at fault. Also, as has already been stated, yes, Mario Paint requires a mouse to use, which could be a good thing, considering that even if you're able to use the controller, the cursor moves a lot more slowly (as would be expected). The bee swatting game is also pretty much impossible on higher levels without the mouse  Also, I believe Colleen's link doesn't look right because there's a colon followed by a captial S in the URL, which the board interprets as a smiley, and thus tries to display the appropriate picture (in this case being  ). | I think I'm most definitly going to get a good, old-school Super Nintendo. This one can only use the... three differently coloured connectors, I forget what they're called. I only have one such line in, and it would compete with both my N64 and the GC... I don't have the money for a switchboard yet :s So... is the problem with the games, then, since Mario Paint works perfectly? |

| I never actually saw one of those newer SNES models in person, but some of my local stores were selling them for a very short time in the late 90s. They have no RF, and I've seen wireless controller receviers that probably wouldn't fit. I'm not sure if it has the bottom expansion port. Nothing outside of Japan used that, just like N64. Pretty certain no compatibility issues exist game-wise. The system was often (always?) sold with SMW2, as in that picture. Try cleaning those games. Make sure not to use anything abrasive or strong chemicals. A cotton swab might work, unless it rips. If you need a switchboard, that will much cost less than another SNES. They're $9.99 or 4 for $20! on this site, and includes the box>TV wire. http://store.yahoo.com/shoptronics/avauvisysesw.html SNES video cables are identical to what comes with every N64 and GC. Very easy to find because of that. Type "audio video selector" into Froogle, without the quotes. Mine is a Performance brand, like many of my game accessories. I think they're a division of the now-closed Interact. |

| never seen one of the newer snes models...still have my old snes though, got it from my cousin 6 years ago for Pokemon Red...also gave me 4 games....still have em all to, including SMW, Lttp, Mystic Quest, and another one...cant remember it though...not in the best shape, but thats just how most my stuff is. the controller is kinda broken, gotta get a new one...anways, that newer model kinda looks weird, I like the original one better. | |||

| Okay. Kirby Dreamland... I got it to work. Sort of. It doesn't let me play because it gives me the "Copying Games is Illegal" message o.O I'm assuming I'll have to borrow some games or lend out these so I can figure out if the machine or the games are at fault for these problems? |
