WEll, like the thread title says, today my CRT (Model is H-770 by GEM) Just started acting up, where the entire image would seemingly bounce up and down, once every refresh by one pixel. I can't quite figure out why, because I haven't cahnged any settings on it. My Videocard is an S3 Virge PCI with2 mb of VRAM, and my processor is a pentium 200mhz with MMX. The problem occurs most when I'm playing MIDI's (My sound card is an SBLive! 24-bit, but I never had this problem before when playing Starcraft...), but whenever I change my refresh rate or other settings, the screen will continue to mess up when the screen blacks out, before stabilizing a bit when it comes back. I can't figure out what is wrong, so I'm wondering if anyone else has any ideas.

sounds like your CRT is ready to go--have you tried another monitor on your computer? if that monitor seems to work, then probably your monitor is ready to be sent to computer waste yard

Ready to go?! Dude, this monitor is less than a year old. Well, at least I know not to buy from Radioshack/The Source again. I'm going to try another monitor and hope that it works, although if the other monitor has the same problem, then I have to find a replacement videocard, much harder. Man I hate losing receipts... Now I can't simply return the monitor for another. |

unless you find the same exact monitor does your current monitor have a warranty? maybe you can invoke it... |

I don't know, I believe I've lost the warranty booklet since I moved... Anyways, don't ask me why, but overnight the shaking stopped, which has let me quite confused. I didn't change anything, but the monitor just... fixed itself. I have no idea why.

Might be a possiblity that some magnetic field disturbed your monitor. Such as uhm... other monitors, speakers or TV's. In my dorm I discovered that the picture on my monitor was shaking when the TV was on. moving it 5-10 CM away made the shaking to disappear totally.

That was my first thought, but nothing has been moved or changed, so I can't fault anything in that regard.

Monitors are weird like that. Mine used to have little horizontal lines jumping up and down, but they just disappeared as suddenly as they appeared. Never knew why. I guess in both cases it could be the cable... no good for me since the cable's stuck right on mine, but it hasn't happened for a while now anyway.

Well, it seems to be Time-of-day dependant, because it happened again today, at the same approximate time... Could a short-wave ham radio possibly interfere with my monitor from 2 blocks down the street? There's a pretty big antenna there.

Possibly, though I doubt it... You could always see what times of the day the station is operating (or just listen to it) and see if it corresponds to the monitor acting up. I know my monitor will interfere with radios if they're too close on certain stations, so yeah. |

I'll have to agree with HH...monitors are just weird. One time, I turned mine on, and was greeted with a black and blue flashing screen. The whole thing "locked up" after that...I had to physically unplug it in order to turn it off. It's worked fine ever since. There was also another time shortly after I got my Logitech speakers when the screen started vibrating wildly, accompanied by a weird "buzzing" noise. My speakers are to blame for this one, though, since the shaking stopped as soon as I turned them off. And again, it hasn't happened since... |

It's not a radio station, just a hobbyist ham radio, so I wouldn't be able to find out when he's on the air. I don't really get it, it just happen on it's own. Well, perhaps it's static electricity, becauseif I turn off the montitor, wipe my hand around the screen, and turn it back on the shaking disappears. :/ |
