Machinae Supremacy

Great rock / metal band from Sweden. Famed for their C64 covers and beyond. Kick ass and free too.

Manic Street Preachers (Britpop, but they did ape Guns n' Roses early on...)
Dredg (new stuff sounds like really arty Incubus)
Doves (kind of dreamy Britpop, good atmospherics)
Social Distortion (pioneers in California punk)

I quite like the idea of a plugging thread, so I'll sticky this. PLUGS GO HERE NO NEW THREADS.

Furious is their first and new album. They are Insane Clown Posse, Esham The Boogeman, and Lavel all put together to a Super Villian theme and it really is a great CD. You dont have to like ICP, or horrorcore or rap-rock, this is a great anything CD. I advise you try it (p2p, you'll notice that sharing programs are flooded with this album even though its only been out for 3 weeks.) or buy it!

Great british pop band. They released their fourth album The Journey, their first on a label, earlier this year. "Does This Train Stop on Merseyside?" is a great single, and so is "Takin' On The World", to be relased in the October 3.

So what knowest ye of My Vitriol?

Well, they have a bit of shoegazer influence in their sort of indie-punk-pop. The name comes from a book I didn't realize was THAT old, Graham Greene's Brighton Rock. (It was first published in the 1930's... ) Highly recommend "Always Your Way" and "Ode To the Red Queen".

It´s SPELLED Kamelot. I have Absolute Power Metal collection on my computer.

Hmm, let´s see.

Avantasia
Firewind
Kamelot (as Jarukoth said)
Stratovarius
Axenstar
Dark Moor
Manigance
Rhapsody
Sonata Arctica
Cryonic Temple

I´ll edit this when I remember more bands.

Edit: And that´s only a few of them.

Public Kingdom 14

They have some music of theirs at that site (found here). Their lyrics are in Chinese, yes, but the music is cool.

I've been getting into dredg lately as well, and from hearing "Bug Eyes" as well as the "Brushstroke: dbtfoabaaposba > Same 'Ol Road" from a few years ago, I'm starting to think their albums are ones I should own. (I have a copy of el cielo, but I'm not too familar with it and it's a burned copy anyway)

I can't really offer much in terms of bands nobody knows about right now. If it were 2-3 years ago I would have said Avenged Sevenfold, Muse, Lostprophets, and 30 Seconds to Mars, but all of them have had some pretty big hits since then.

Oh hell yeah. I'm anxiously awaiting their headlining tour, whenever that may be. I saw them (TMV, obviously) opening for System Of A Down a couple weeks ago, and they ruled, but as for the crowd, I'd say about 90% of 'em were there just to see System, with another 9 percent there to see both (I'm in this group), and the remaining 1% there just for the TMV. So it'd be a lot more enjoyable to watch a TMV concert with a bunch of fans that know what they're listening to; plus maybe they'll have enough time to play 6 songs instead of just 4.

I quite like Death Cab for Cutie. I'd link to their website, but it's Flash-based and it kinda killed my iBook, so I'll just recommend that if you're interested, look them up. I'm not quite sure what to describe them as, but I recommend you listen to "Soul Meets Body".

You've got a good head on your shoulders... you'll go far, my son . I call The Mars Volta, At the Drive in, and raise you Sparta.

And Radiohead... possibly my favorite band ever, of course. Excellent call.

but ftw...how can this thread exist without anyone mentioning the Pixies??!

I will also take this opportunity to recommend Pelican and Isis. Although Isis is more popular, I really think Pelican is better..They blew me away when I saw them at the Metro (Chicago) and, in my eyes, easily outshown Isis who they were opening for. It was like a 15 minute jamming orgasm for each song. I'm definetly going to see them again when I get the chance

I remember when I went to see TMV on the 12th march in Manchester. They played the following songs:

Drunkship of Lanterns
Concertina
Roulette Dares
Cygnus, Vismund Cygnus
Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt
The Widow
Cassandra Geminni

The entire set was 2 hours long exactly, and I know because ive got the recording of the gig.

And it was the most amazingly surreal and crazy 2 hours of my life. Total musical brilliance. But the crowd did suck totally. I mean...moshing while the mars volta were playing the widow? WTF?!?! Even the band got pissed off. At the end of cassandra geminni, Cedric threw his mic across the stage, almost hitting omar in his afro, then ran off.
