I was wondering if you can go into a casino of the age of 18? My dad said that I can go into a casino to play slots machines, but you can't drink, play poker, gamble, etc, because I am not the age of 21. That you only have minimum of choices at the age of 18. Is this true? I heard that some casino's won't let people in if they are 21 years or older. Like in Las Vegas, some casino's won't let you in, if you are 21. Someone tell me is this true or not, because I will go soon?

I'm pretty sure the age was 21. I went to Las Vegas this summer because my sister wanted to go gambling on her 21st birthday. I was allowed to go through the casino as long as I'm not in the game area.

Umm... I thought you couldn't do anything 'till 21, but I'm wrong. According to this article... http://rose.casinocitytimes.com/articles/966.html ...It varies by state. In Alaska you can do slot machines at 18! Sweet! Too bad there aren't any casinos around. |

Hmm... going to gamble. Is uppose that I must warn you that most games are rigged, and if you actually want to go, only do blackjack, as it is not random chance. Of course, it would be much better if you did not waste your time and money gambling what you have earned. |

Actually, I heard somewhere that slot machines have the best payoff, so that might be an option.

I actually like Blackjack better, I have a care that says when you should stand, hit, double down, or split. I tried that out in GTA: SA and got a lot of money. I'm going to keep on practicing playing Blackjack till I turn 21. After I turn 21, I'm going straight to the Blackjack tables.

There can be skill involved, if you look for it. Try to figure out the machine's random number algorithm.

In any casino (and I believe it's federal law) you can go into a casino and gamble at the age of 18. However, some casino's have a bar in the casino itself, which is why some (if not most) have the 21 age limit, because of the bar. Although I can't speak for everywhere, that's how it is here, in Minnesota. Now if only there was a way to get Canada's legal drinking age to the states....

Slots: average return is 70% percent, within the day, by law (oftentimes it's more like 80%). So if you were the only one playing a machine throughout a day, you'd actually lose 30%, no matter what. If you were to observe a machine that was consistantly losing for a better part of a day, then you should hop on that one. And don't tell me smart people like you guys aren't using betting systems ... Straight-up betting is so foolish, that's how casinos get their money the easiest! Let's take the martingale system: bet #1 $5 loss, double bet to cover bet #2 $10 loss, double bet again bet #3 $20 win, total bet: $35, total return: $40, net gain: $5. Reset bet bet #4 $5 win, total bet: $5, total return: $10, net gain: $5 bet #5 $5 since you won the above bet, reset again Still, even this is flawed, say with 4 bets your percent chance of winning is 93.625% (on a 50%, two bets bring you to 75%, then 3 makes 87.5%, etc.), and you win within that. well, now each time you play these odds, that 2.75% sneaks up on you and grows. You're basically wagering a total of $80 on something for a net gain of $10 (with much better than 1/2 odds) in the long run when you martingale. (but then don't forget the house advantage, so it's a little less than 95.625%) Why you get screwed by casinos: Roulette: 17/35 chance of winning based on color, 2x payout. So there's that 1/35 that makes this bet not worth making, because your payout is 34/17, not 35/17. If you bet straight-up, chances are you'll consistantly lose 1/35 of your money as time goes on. Blackjack: No matter what fancy tactics you have, the basics remain the same, the dealer gets to see your hand, and then play on it accordingly. So that tough decision of whether or not to hit or not at 17 (didn't say 16 because usually the table rules state that the dealer hits on 16) is no longer an assumption, the dealer knows whether or not there is a need to risk a bust. (and I've NEVER seen a dealer get 12, and then a face card for a bust... why does this never happen!?!!) Keno: .... If I have to explain this one, you should be shot video poker: You can't count cards (autoshuffle, 1 deck), so winning is still based highly on luck. I'm not sure on the specific numbers on this, but the overall payout/likelyhood of a win ratio is pretty out of your favor. Texas hold 'em: Haven't looked into this one, but I hear that casinos make a loooot more than the people do on this one |

Originally posted by Zer0wned In casino blackjack, the dealer never makes a decision by himself. Ever. It's all governed by the rules. Seeing your cards does nothing for the dealer. By card counting, you can turn the odds ever so slightly in your favor, if you don't get caught. And in Hold 'em, the house just takes a rake, so as long as you win more than the rake, you come out on top. |

Question. When you go up to a slot machine and you put a quarter in and you start playing, do you have to put a quarter every time or in a once in a while?

Originally posted by NSNick Gah! I've been misinformed then... nevermind. Then how DOES the house gain an advantage in blackjack? I mean, if you're playing straight-up, the chances of winning can't be 50%.... Unless you're just relying on them being drunk/bad players? @peter I'm pretty sure it's every time, depending on if it's a quarter machine or whatever. Nowadays you can just stick your credit card in there =P |

You can put a bunch in to get credits on the machine. You can play as long as you have credits. If you don't have any credits, you need to feed it more quarters (/nickels/whatever)Originally posted by Zer0wnedThe rules of blackjack gives the house an advantage- the biggest of which being that the player goes first, and if they bust, they lose, no matter whether the dealer busts after them or not.
