For a short time because of its tenth anniversary, Opera is giving away free registration codes for its browser here:

Grrrrreat.

Honestly, the AD turned me away.

Yay for a second browser to use (IE doesn't count). And using several browser is good (in a developper's view, that is)

Hooray for free stuff! *grabs Opera and a code*

I haven't really delved into Opera much. Now I have a good reason to poke around with it some more and see how well I like it. I still have the standard one-button Mac soap bar mouse (I like the ergonomics of it and I rarely miss the second button), so I may not try out the mouse gestures, but I'm curious about the umpty bazillion other features that Opera fans love. And, as was mentioned, it never hurts to keep an extra browser around.

I could use a copy to test my site/layouts on, but hell if I'm using one with ads.

Well, I suppose I'll try it out then, Opera's ads was the #1 reason I never bothered with it. Firefox is far superior after all (what, 10% of Opera code doesn't work in FF, but 90% of FF code doesn't work in Opera? xD).

Neither have the 100% compatibility of IE 6, but then again, neither have the glaring security flaws, and the FF extension "Adblock" is THE win.

IE6? 100% compatibility? Just what version are you using? Going by W3C standards, no IE I know of even comes close.

100% compatibility with "Real" sites. For example: eBay, MSNBC, and so forth.

Well, I grabbed some codes for myself but here's a good reason to not use the darn thing: http://specialops.ath.cx/~ant/tests/opera.xhtml (hint: look at the source, even Internet Explorer works with it)

Grabbed also a code for it. Opera is nice, but the only feature which had might have it comparable to Firefox for me was minor, as stupid as it sounds:

The instant reaction of mouse gestures. But even that got off, since I'm using Deer Park Alpha 2. In its release notes there is an entry

Faster browser navigation with improvements to back and forward button performance

it - so now even the mouse gestures work instantly just like in Opera
Opera is a nice browser (if ad-free), but it ranks second after Firefox and paying for a web browser ?
No thanks

You mean people actually use that crappy fullscreen mode they put in every browser for some reason?

Have you tried Opera's fullscreen mode ? When you're in fullscreen mode, you ONLY see the page, nothing else. I like it.

Opera rocks my socks.

I'm all kinds of fond of mouse gestures, and full screen mode, and user-mode.

And since I'm on dial-up, having the one-click option to stop image-loading is so sweet.

To bad I missed out on getting a free code for it
