Personally, I think the best ever event so far would be The industrial revolution, because of everything that it accomplished, and indirectly made possible.

We've all thought of that one. Most of us end up realizing there would be major energy loss in the form of heat. Light bulbs do get hot.

And yes, I'd go nuts without music.

The development of language, or possibly the development of the concept of 'community'.

Humanity's greatest evolutionary advantage is that we not only share resources, we share information. That way, everyone doesn't have to re-discover the wheel on their own.

(The wheel, by the way, was one of the major breakthroughs in Eurasian civilization; the lack thereof is one of the reasons why American civilizations didn't have very effective infrastructures)

I couldnt disagree more with you. If people walked everywhere, they wouldnt be lazy, fat, and get loads more exercise. Seriously, think. I think mankind is better off without cars.

Erm... my answer? Like Hyperhacker, electricity.

I didnt mean that; I meant, people would get a lot more exercise if they walked everywhere. And lets face it, most people would be (atleast slightly) thinner.

I thought you left, anyway.

We'd use horses. Besides, how else are we supposed to carry really heavy loads or travel a really long way?

The greatest moment in the history of mankind was the creation of the Internet.

Without the Internet, information that we so enjoy now would be harder to come by and therefore making it easier for people with the knowledge to supress those who don't. (The very reason the church enjoyed tremendous power before the common folk became literate in europe).

Also, the discovery of electricity is right up there with the creation of the internet. Where would we be without electricity???

A lot of people mentioned anti-biotics but who needs them when mankind has enjoyed the privelidge of Mother Natures very best anti-biotic for centuries, Garlic?

On a global scale, the internet is still kind of a niche thing. The number of people who own internet-connected computers is still really low compared to the world population.

Heck, the number of people with electricity is still rather low too.
