The assassination of Caesar. Rome would've collapsed under the rule of the Senate. Due to his murder at the hand of the senators Augustus was able to consolidate power. Sure, a few of the Emperors were nutjobs that drove the Empire to utter bankruptcy...But who is REALLY bankrupt when you rule the world? Suffice to say, when an empire has existed since around 400 BC and continues to exist to this day (encompassing the lives of over 1 billion people) something behind it was pretty important. Many would argue Christ's death being the catalyst. He would never have gotten the recognition he has today had it not been for the consolidated power of the SPQR. |

Everybody's mentioned some very good stuff... something I thought of that's pretty cool is refrigeration. I'm pretty happy with it... it means that my food doesn't go bad, so I can eat it without getting sick. That's pretty cool. |

No one mentioned cars. If cars weren't invented, we would probably still be using horses or walking from place to place.

Greatest moment hmmm...I would say.... That rainy day November 1st 1994 in a hosipital in Ottawa... But if I were to choose something that others knew about I would have to go with the creation of Mario. Sure electricity is great and everything, but it was bound to be found out eventually. Mario brought fun and enjoyment to so many people around the world for so many years. Plus I am sure it brought alot of this community together eh... |

I don't think humankind has yet achieved something worthy of being deemed the greatest moment. Here is a list I keep of things I'm waiting to see achieved. But, since mere waiting isn't usually my style, I do what little I can to help achieve these ends. • The discovery, obtaining or creation of perpetual energy. Hopefully this brings about... • The end of menial work, the ceasing of the existence of money and worldwide economic equality. Which may permit... • A society of artists; painters, writers, sculpters, etc. who are free to spend all their time with friends, family or persuing their art of choice. • The dissolution of all current forms of government in favor of one that works (perhaps that's a bit harsh). • The existence of a society without criminals or ailment, physical or otherwise. Some day... |

heh, I had an idea for a perpetual energy generator once... a lightbulb powering itself with solar panels Personally, I think the best ever event so far would be The industrial revolution, because of everything that it accomplished, and indirectly made possible. |

The maping out of the human genome. It's allowance for a greater understanding of human genetics will likely lead to many more solutions to the genetic disorders that are prevelant in our world.

Slay, you're dodging the question. Assuming there have been many moments in our history, and that they haven't been all exactly the same, the greatest moment must exist, even if you have higher standards of greatness than the rest of humanity. Right? So now I have to contribute something... I'm going to be even more cynical than normal and say it was when people figured out that you can hit people with sharp rocks. That one discovery drove the entire human history up to this point. There's always been the option to just hit someone. Think how different the world would be if that had never happened. See? Greatness at its best. Greatness is not necessarily beneficial- Terrible things can still be great things. |

Books used to be hand writen by monks. Books used to be a sign of wealth and prestige, until the mass production due to the press. With this avaible, literature was available to the masses and they could no longer be corrupted by the church, they could no longer be control with fear, religion was in their grasp. Then Martin Luther came along and started the reform.

The Danielle says... ...paper. It took us awhile to get paper down pat. I could personally make my way through life without a lot of things, but not without paper, at the least. Ring binders, too. Seriously, though, I think musical instruments are the greatest. You could get a group of people to debate endlessly over which technological marvel we have today is tops, but without the arts, the sciences are meaningless. Who wants to live forever if there's nothing more to life than eat, sleep and work? I could bear the plague, I could deal with dying of influenza, but I'd already be dead if I didn't have music and literature in my life. |
