Mozilla Firefox / Deer Park Deer Park Alpha 2 is now available for download. Deer Park Alpha 2 is an alpha release of our next generation Firefox browser and it is being made available for testing purposes only for developers and the testing community. Current users of Mozilla Firefox 1.0.x should not download or use Deer Park Alpha 2. Just wondering, who here uses Deer Park? I am using it at work, and I find it to be pretty good. It's quicker than Firefox was on this machine both in startup and loading tabs, and I haven't had any bugs yet (except for one with an extension, ImageZoom) I was wondering if anybody else is using it, and if so... how are you finding it? |

I... will wait for the final release. I love Firefox but I have had bad experiences with Mozilla betas before. Having all your preferences/bookmarks/e-mail deleted out of nowhere = not fun. |

I was fairly lucky with all my Firefoxes, plus I also knew that it was all testing stuff so I wasn't too upset if things did go funny. I'm more than happy to put myself in the testing seat. |

This was using regular Mozilla BTW. I've never used a non-stable version of Firefox and as a result I love it immensely. But Mozilla betas... um... great way to piss me off at some point when my e-mail vanishes. |

What about backupping E-Mails and Bookmarks first, especially before using beta versions ? I want to update my Thunderbird to 1.6 now (using 0.9 now) and I'll backup my emails beforehand - just to make sure, since there are some very important ones among these. The same goes when I install updates for Firefox, the bookmarks and cookies are secured into a separate folder. Edit: Just installed it - I didn't notice any major change after it, every extension still works, but only three themes has beend disabled (which I don't use - but Noia eXtreme still works ), and aside very minor speed-ups when opening a tab. But Deer Park Alpha 2 also has that memory leak bug for me it already uses 50 MB of RAM - I wil expand my 512 MB to 1 GB anyway in time, but that was the only thing is disliked in FF. Unlike Firefox the RAM doesn'T get down to its about 20-30 MB when I minimize and restore DPA2, but since I have anyway at least about 200 MB free, it is no issue to refuse a browser (edited by Surlent on 08-27-05 04:46 PM) |

Can we use BOTH FF ? I mean, can I use the stable version as my main browser and just install Dee Park in a different folder to try it ?

I just grabbed it after hearing that the OS X compatibility had been improved. I had long ago ditched Firefox in favor of Camino because Firefox's keyboard shortcut set (an irritating, incomplete mishmash of Windows and OS X-style key combinations) bugged the snot out of me, and I see that they've gone a long way to improve it. My most often used Camino shortcuts (Back, Forward, cycling through tabs) are identical. I wish Deer Park would use Option+Shift+F for the search box instead of Option+K, but eh, I think I can remember that minor difference. Much as I generally like Camino, it has some issues that get on my nerves (nothing with the functionality of Adblock, inexplicable extreme slowness and processor chewing when typing a reply on the cosplay.com vBulletin-based forums), so it's great to be able to use a browser that solves those problems while (mostly) feeling like a OS X application. Unless Deer Park craps out on me, I'm going to stick with it. |

I tried this thing out. Whenever I use the scrollbar, it totally freaks out.. like the bar just moves on its own until I stop. That seems like a big thing, so I wonder if it's just my computer somehow. So yeah, I'm definitely not using it. I am using Mac OS 10.3.8. |

I had a scrollbar freakout while browsing a board, but I closed the tab and it went away. Hopefully it's just a random minor annoyance. At least I have other browsers I can switch back to if Deer Park gets on my nerves. I forgot to mention that my OS X version is 10.3.9.

I used Deer Park Alpha 2 briefly a few weeks ago. Frankly, I wasn't very impressed with it, it felt like Mozilla Firefox, just with the Dump Private Data (or whatever it was called) feature from Opera.

Well, it *IS* the next version of Firefox, codenamed Deer Park. Probably a lot more not-so-obvious changes under the hood but still. I'll grab it on official release. |

I just downloaded, but I don't see a difference between Firefox and Deep Park Alpha 2. Its probably because I'm not a developer.
