Damn, someone already did Washington. I'll try to expand I guess -It rains almost every day False, in summer it's almost never rainy. - Because it's close to Oregon (portland specifically, although I dont want more steriotypes about PORTLAND) there's a lot of meth addicts. Also false, At least from what the news says. But yeah, there actually is a lot of meth just across the Columbian River. That's all I can really say about Washington, since I have no idea what anyone else really thinks about it. |

Ahh, yes. Lets clear up some things about Alaska: Things that are true: -We live in houses, not igloos. -We are a part of the USA. -We are a state, not a territory. -It only snows in the winter and late fall. -In the more rural cities, people drink Listerine Mouth Wash for a cheap shot of alcohol. -Not all cities are villages. Things that aren't true: -We do not live in igloos. -We do not harvest wale to feed our village (except for people who live way up north.) -We live in cities, not villages. -We are not all eskimos. Hope that helped! (edited by Snika on 08-24-05 10:31 PM) (edited by Snika on 08-24-05 10:31 PM) |

Washington: - Serial killers are born here... well, seeing the history of them, quite a lot are - Uhh... everyone loves fish. Hell no, there's plenty of people in Seattle that hate fish. - We spend too much tax dollars. Well, it's true. |

Ontario Canada: - We caused the August Blackout last year... = WRONG. It was Ohio or something like that. - You will get SARS or Mad Cow or West Nile... = WRONG. I think like 5 people have got West Nile. Not sure about the other stuff, but its safe. - We live in igloos... = Only in the winter. - We at whale blubber... = Nope. I have had a few americans (from civilized places like Cali and NY) think that we live in igloos, have pet polar bears and penguins, eat blubber, its -50 C all the time, and think we are all eskimos up here. Well, the thing that makes me think they are idiots is that penguins live in Antartica. We dont have any wild ones in Canada. They also think we say EH alot, and think we can all speak fluent french and english. |

There's not enough server space to even BEGIN listing all the misconceptions about America, so I'll stick to Washington. - There's apple trees there, that's true. But they're not planted every 5 square feet. - Granola eaters. I don't know where this came from, but it's funny. - It's infested with hippies. This probably came from the WTO protest in Seattle years ago, but there aren't any more hippies here than anywhere else in the country really. - It rains a lot. Eh, it does actually, but not every day. |

God! This is gonna take a while... Australia...mate. "Australia is one huge desert, where the closest store is 1,000 miles away." Go deep into central Australia, and maybe... But no one cares about those guys anyway. "Kangaroos and Koalas are everywhere!" Again... Only in deep Australia. The only place you can see Koalas and Kangaroos anywhere near Sydney is at the zoo. "OMG! You're Aussie!? (actually pronounced 'Ozzie') I just love that Crocodile Hunter guy!!! AND that kick-ass Crocodile Dundee guy!!!" SHUT UP!!!! We're nothing like that at all! Our accents aren't nearly as bad as their's. Shit, I wouldn't know the first thing about croc poo...or crocs for that matter. And maybe about 0.001 percent of Sydnians know how to survive on "bush tuckah!" No one says "Crikey!" Okay, so we say "G'day!" and "How'zit goin'?"... Saying "Darlin'" just pisses everyone off here nowadays. OMG! And we have broadband, high definition TVs, telephones, cell phones (called "mobiles" here), Nintendo DSes and PSPs. God! We're not that slow! *...Stands still and drools for a moment. * |

On Canada: We're a socialist wonderland -I wish we were, but in fact its not true We're all lumberjacks -Only 4 people in my extended family are We're all growers of marijuana -Only 2 members of my family are We have a small and weak military -A staggering amount of my family makes up that military. And remember it's not the size the counts, it's what you do with it. We all live in igloos -Rarely true, although I make them around January to eat soup in. But don't you have Eskimos!? -No, we don't. They're called Inuits. People that use the term "Eskimo" is either a hick or a racist. I heard that your Indians live like kings! -I don't know too much about the Indian community here. They make good curry in Toronto, though...And I've noticed that the Sikh population are very active politically. I wasn't talking about that kind of Indian! -There isn't any other kind. I heard that Toronto is a killing field of gun violence! -Not really. There have been 40 murders since the beginning of the year. Chicago and other cities that have a population of ~3 million have FAR higher murder rates. Okay, I'll call them People of First Nations...Aren't they spoiled? -No. My cousin Barbara lives on a Reserve. She's seen her sister become addicted to heroine, her three closest friends kill themselves and can't buy food on Reserve anymore. In fact, the UN has asked the Canadian government to improve the horrid conditions that are often called the 3rd world in the 1st world. Is it true that CBC stands for Communist Broadcasting Company? -Stop listening to Ann Coulter or Bill O'Reilly when they talk about Canada...Or anything really. Why are your women so sexy? -Because we put sexiness in the water. |

Originally posted by Kasumi-AstraThis isn't so much a regional misconception as a linguistic difference. American English generally defines "pudding" specifically as the sugary milk-based dessert class of foods. Actually, when prepared properly, Fish and Chips is actually relatively healthy. Fish in any food makes for a good diet, anyway. As for the Yorkshire Pudding, well you'd be right in saying that pudding means the same thing here. The name comes from tradition, where Yorkshire Pudding originated from harder and poorer times. It's basically made up from leftovers and called that to make it seem less like a substitute for more expensive food. These kind of stories fascinate me. It's interesting to find out exactly where all the food we eat today comes from, and why it became popular in the first place. In that case, British food easily makes a claim as some of the most richest and most interesting food in the world. |

Yeah. Basically, rather than using a pound and a bit of flour and then tossing it into beer batter you use a light wine and crumb batter and bake it The chips will always be bad for you Unless baked in a very virgin olive oil. |

Tartarus: It doesn't really take nine days and nine nights for a bronze anvil to fall here from Earth. We tried an experiment, and it got here in just over 56 hours, 23 minutes. So take that. It's not nearly as dank and gloomy here as you might have heard anymore, but we keep a visitor's center open with hecatoncheires, bronze gates, and the like, just for the look of the thing. Seriously, we have electric lights and the Internet too, we're not really all that backwater. On the other hand, it is a bit crowded here. The Titans take up quite a bit of room, and of course, no one who comes here ever leaves, so we have a big housing problem most of the time. And everyone seems to think this place is some kind of... Hell or something. Seriously, Rhadymanthus is a kinder judge these days, and hardly ever does anyone actually do anything to get punished for anyway. However, we are kind of traditionalists, so once a year we have a competition to see how fast people can roll rocks up hills, then let them tumble down again. It's a great event, and we usually have fireworks afterwards. All in all, it's a great place to live, and I don't really mind being damned here for eternity. Come visit sometime! |
