Now, this game has eluded me. I have the mame romset of it, but it doesn't work. I'm sure there must / can be a .smc SNES rom of it somewhere (like for The Addams Family). I've looked everywhere for this game, but had no luck. The reason I want it is because some stuff in it might be different (like in the NSS Addams Family, some levels and other things were greatly altered). I'm not exactly asking to be pointed right to it, but if anyone has ever seen / downloaded the file "Super Mario World (NSS).smc". Has anybody ever played this game when it came out a long time ago on the Nintendo Super System in arcades? If so, what is different in this version? |

Erm, do you mean the NES? If so, there was a pirated version of SMW for it, but it's pretty crappy - worse graphics, plus it's missing a few of the levels from the original SMW. If that's what you mean, then yes, but I've never heard of Ninteno Super System. |

Asking for roms is a definate NO-NO. Plus, I think this should be in General Emulation... | |||

He's asking if anybody has seen a rom of the Nintendo Super System (an arcade version of the SNES, isn't it?) version of SMW. If I recall corrently, I saw somewhere that the NSS game was an earlier version than the SNES one, which means that there could be some beta stuff left in it. Also, from what I can see, he's not asking for it. He just wants to know if such a rom exists. That's not against the rules, is it? |

Hmm... I wonder if there is a way to hack the MAME romset to make it run in an SNES emulator... Probably farfetched, but hey... |

I was thinking something like that, but seeing as the mame romset doesn't work (and you get a bad dump message for one of the files), it would probably be no use. But, how were The Addams Family and other NSS (.smc) roms made? I only hope if the day comes that "Super Mario World (NSS).smc" is dumped that it's not 100% the same as the normal version. |

*downloads the nss_smw ROM set out of curiosity and examines it a bit* It appears to be incomplete. The last half of the ic1 file seems to be a duplicate of the first half, and the ic3 file is mostly empty. Going by the size of the SNES version, that would mean there's only about 25% of the game here. The data corresponds to the areas from 20200-301FF and 60200-701FF in the SNES ROM. Unfortunately, that's not where SMW stores the graphics or levels... |

After a bit of googling, I came across this screenshot: The differences in the logo and the missing border lead me to believe that the NSS version was an early version... but... That screenshot is "From a Nintendo Super System flyer". I later found this image: You can see that the title logo is the same as the SNES version, and that the border is back in place. Maybe the NSS version is not quite so different. |

Are you sure that's a real NSS, and not just a homemade arcade system? Fu, how different is the data that is there? Would the game run, at least partially, if you copied the missing data in from an SMW ROM? If so, that would indicate they're pretty much identical. |

Yes, that's a real NSS. I was lucky enough to play one at a local pizza parlor back in the early 90's. I seem to recall something being different about one of the games (F-Zero, maybe). Why don't people verify their dumps before they go spreading them around the Internet? Especially when it comes to something as rare as this... |

This is the only [good] information I could find on the thing: SMW: NSS. That site says there are virtually no differences. I may search a p2p later for a rom...but I doubt I will beable to find one. (edited by Keikonium on 08-21-05 09:49 AM) (edited by Keikonium on 08-21-05 09:50 AM) |

There's no good MAME romset dump of it, and no (known) .smc dump. FuSoYa: Yeah, the dump is bad, but you also need the nss drivers (nss.zip, which includes nss-c.dat, nss-ic14.02, and spc700.rom, altogether are around another 64k) to be able to run a nss game in MAME (which makes no difference here anyway, since the dump of mw.ic1 is bad). |

HH: I took a quick look at the code, which seems mostly the same. But there are some differences, as some of the JMP and JSR offsets are a little off in places. While the levels and graphics are missing from this partial dump, the data does include the level and sprite pointer tables. It seems the level pointer table is identical to the SNES version, so the levels are probably the same. The sprite pointers are off by about 3 bytes or so for most of the table, so they might have changed one or two sprites somewhere. |

It's quite possible that the game is different even though all the data from the original / full game is there (in NSS Addams Family, all the data from the full game is in the rom, but not all of it is used.. the game leaves out a lot of levels and is in a linear order). Since the NSS was meant as a 'demo' system, maybe only some levels are accessible. Or not. I don't know since I've never tried NSS SMW and don't have the ability to. |

Awesome. Why doesn't it work, though? Does it just crash, or are you missing the 65816/SPC700/NSS plugins? |
