According to Nintendo Co. Ltd. and Babelfish, the new Game Boy Micro does not support old Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.

Corresponding software Game boy advance private cartridge
* You cannot use the card e leader and card e leader +.
* You cannot use the game boy series private cartridge.

I am disapointed.

What does it matter? It's just another variation optimized for maximum portability. It's not like their entire future depends on it.

I didn't want to get a GB Micro anyway because I'm happy with my DS but the fact that it only plays GBA games is making me hate it even more.

I hardly care how well it does, as I'm not getting one. Actually, I might hope that it doesn't even sell, so Nintendo can get it into their brains to MAKE MORE GAMES, MAKE LESS GAMEBOY VARIATIONS!!!

What a ripoff. It's not even worth it. Now that we have DS, making a new GBA is pointless, especially one with less capabilities.

Maybe it'll be cheap? =\
That's what I thought when I first heard about this. That's why I asked about how successful it could be, maybe there's something about it that makes it special. The SP seems to do a fine job of saving space on its own.. it fits in my pocket. What are they trying to accomplish here?

Maybe for people to quickly pull out, play a game for a little bit, and then put it away. It is really small, so maybe that is what it going to accomplish?

If it is cheap and allows linking between the Gamecube and that, then I might get it for some of my games. Otherwise, I will stick to my DS...

Style reasons more than anything, and people *will* buy it due to that. There comes a point where you do have to stop with the whole "legacy support" (GB/GBC) thing anyways, and there's still plenty of GBA's out there if people do need to play their old games.

No, they won't Colleen.

No one over 18 is going to bother with it, because it isn't an IT! item. It will never be an IT! item. It will be ignored.

If they were to sell it for 60 bucks bundled with a game or something. Then it would fly. But as it stands now. Who cares?

Y'all know they probably aren't going to recycle GBA hardware for all eternity, right? This'll probably be it for that platform.

Unless the screen is 100% scratch resistant and the buttons will never stick even after 10 years, it's not worth it since it has no screen cover. My original GBA got scratched so fast. =\

I heard it'll cost $99. Didn't Nintendo themselves say each unit is expensive to build? Geez, to think I bought a DS on day one just to find out it was terrible. Got rid of that fast. Why is their R&D department spending valuable time/money on these projects? Does anyone have the sales numbers for E-reader in the US? I've wondered about that.

I just say Nintendo needs to release an adaptor to play GBC games on DS. It should be easy enough to allow the DS to read GBC carts (just need to step up the voltage; an external battery could do it if need be) and it's certainly more than powerful enough to emulate it from there.

I'd say it's a scheme to sell more Nintendo DS units. Think about it - You could buy a Micro for $100, or pay an extra $60 or so and get another screen, which is touchable(Mmmm), backwards compatible, and uhh... Better graphics, and so-on. This thing will only be bought by the people who seriously want to play multi-player with their GBA games.

The only catch is that the DS uses a different processor.

The Micro only plays GBA games because it only has the one processor used by GBA games.

The only reason the GBA played GBC games was because it had two processors: the one used by GBA games, and the one used by the older gbc games.

The DS only contains two processors: the one DS games use, and the one GBA games use.

An add-on like you suggest would have to either be very expensive because it contains a new processor, or be a piece of hardware that contains an emulator. They wouldn't do the latter, as it would make pirted games too easy to play.

I figure this is the last GBA thing, for those who either haven't gotten a GBA and want a stylish system to play the 700 + selection of GBA games, plus unlike the SP it has official faceplates so color changes won't be as hard as buying a whole new system. It also has less of a childish appearance and would probably fit in a work environment better then most or all the SP designs. The backlight also may be a plus for those lacking a Nintendo DS, plus if it supports GCN connectivity or can get an addon for that for a low price, and it supports multiplayer, it isn't that bad. And if it sells bad, Nintendo will discover the world has no need for a candy bar sized GBA and that the SP and the original do well enough.
