Okay, I've encountered a recent problem that I would like to solve asap. I purchased McAfee Virus Scan and used it for awhile. It said that a trojan, "moo.exe" has been deleted. I said, "okay, scan my computer.". I come back a few hours later and my comp restarted. I thought it was okay so I continued my activities as usual. Later, it restarted at random. At first I thought the power went out for a bit but that was obviously not the case. It keeps restarting at random and I'm getting pissed. If it's not a virus, what is it!? |

It could be a system error and it causes windows XP to restart automatically due to a setting. You can disable this by going to control panel->system control panel->'advance' tab->settings button under 'startup and recovery' (lower third)->unchecking automatically restart under system fKitten Yiffer. that should stop random reboots and show you the error. make sure you write those numbers at the bottom of the BSOD if you get one. |

Actually it will still interupt you, you just will see what the error is. Most of the time, after the BSOD you have no other choice than but to restart. |

If you get a BSOD in XP, you have to restart, and usually replace something. AVs are known for this, though, and McAfee is crap...

Originally posted by HyperHackerI fixed this quote. Seriously, ALL anti-virus programs are LARGE resource hogs that wind up often causing more trouble than they're worth. I have NO antivirus program on my machine (haven't had one in years), and I haven't gotten any viruses or trojans whatsoever. I simply don't use IE, don't install shit I don't know, and don't download random email attatchments |

Yeah, but some people have other people who aren't that smart using their computer. Plus, McAfee is crap by AV standards.

The best virus scanner is Trend Micro PC-cillin internet security. I recemmend getting that because I have it and it is really good and it updates once in a while.

Right now I am being forced to use AVG which I hate, but normally I use Nortons Anti-Virus. When I first saw this thread, the first thing I thought of was that virus that hit CNN, CAT, a few gov't PC's and such. Guess thats not it... Glad you got it fixed. |
