To start things off I am having a real problem with SNES9X. IceMan sent me a snes9x debugger emulator today and I have begun working with blasted thing. when I tried to setup the sidewinder USB to work with the damn emulator it would totally set up the controller the wrong way and made mario mega man and samus move the wrong way. I figured out what was wrong and it seemed like SNES9X newer emulator has a small problem with setting up controllers the right way..... they said in order to fix the problem they said use snes9x 1.41 or lower to set up the controller and then start new emulator for it to automatically import the settings, did it do this ? oh hell no! it just decides to go beserk again...... also I am getting the hang of operating tracer and debugger but I have to ask are there others out that will work for ZSNES or any standolones out there ? if so would somebody please direct to a website to find one ? I tried google but can't find any good results. Thanks MadMikeXP |

Jesus christ, just use a keyboard if it's such a big deal. Most of your time shouldn't be spent giving joypad input while your debugging anyways. | |||

What the hell is your problem ?! the only reason why I need to use a joypad because I need to be able to move through out certain games and track down certain addresses in the game plus using a keyboard isn't easy especially if your playing certain games like SMW, SMAS, SuperMetroid, MMX1,MMX2,MMX3 Mega man 7 and zelda plus tracking down certain codes, but though since you think its just a walk in the park to make the character move with a keyboard lets see you do this for a hour or two and track a certain addresses and codes for SM and lets see how far you get! | |||

His point is that you dont use a tracer/debugger to PLAY the game, just to gather info, so what does it matter what input your using? You can also use Zsnes to get to the point you wish to trace from and then just use the save state with the Snes9x tracer. Not a big deal. |

MMXP, it's actually pretty damn easy for me. Those games you listed, I've played them all. Besides, for me an advantage to using a keyboard is that it makes it easier for me to grab the mouse and switch to Geiger's SNES9x debugger console. | |||

But, if you're determined to use another debugger I'd look at Sleuth, which is also pretty good. No sound emulation last I heard though. There is a Zsnes debugger in the DOS version, I believe.... however I've never used it. If you're a newbie to debugging use Sleuth or GSD (geiger's snes debugger). btw there is also Lordtech's old snes9x debugger, which I have, but it frequently seems to crash my computer. It's ok but nothing special as far as I'm concerned. One of the cooler debuggers I've see was the one built into Sneqr; unfortunately, the emulation is not terribly good for playing, and I'm not even sure if you can find it anymore. (I have it). There is another SNES9x debugger build that isn't Geiger's that i've heard of, but I'm still looking into it. I heard a tip about it a while ago. Look Math On napkins I'm sorry if I snaped at you yesterday but you have to understand where I coming from, me and emulators with only keyboard support don't mix , the reason for that either something will go wrong with emulator or I happen to press the wrong button or hot key at the wrong time and something will go wrong either the emulator crashing or windows lockin up due to some emulators that only supprt keyboard control. | |||

If all else fails, go back to Geiger's SNES9X Debugger and try the controller config again. If you have to, do one button at a time, close the config window, do the next button, etc. This is how I got my controllers working, its an annoying bug, but after several tries it IS possible to completely configure your controller through doing a few buttons at a time, and openening and closing the config window. It's also good to check out the other suggestions here too. Also, there are mapping programs that map your keyboard keys to your controller, you could do it that way too (all else failing of course). |

Its worth mentioning once again that this bug is from the official Snes9x source, and not introduced by me. I have it on good word that this bug will be eliminated in the next version. ---T.Geiger |

I was hanging out at Snes9x.com a while ago and it seems that the Windows port has actually become the least maintained port of all 3 (mac os, linux, and windows). sort of surprising to me. You can't even get a standalone distribution of the source code for the Windows platform. You have to download the linux port and compile it with different options and GCC. (basically I heard it was a bitch to compile, though I don't use the free compiler.) edit: have you considered trying to use the registry to set your joypad buttons?
