Yeah, I'd just like to save some music clips from some movies and TV shows onto my hard disk as an MP3 (the later isn't a requirement of the program; I can just compress a .wav or something into MP3 later)

Could Winamp's DiskWriter plugin make the deal ?
I know it is capable of converting nearly every audio format Winamp can access, I just tried it with a small two-minute WMV video. And I only had the MP3 left in the freshly created MP3 file.

The downside thing was - even while the DiskWriter was active, it converted in realtime (and the video was even played, though without sound) - unlike it needs less when you convert a normal audio file. I don't know if it is just my computer or normal when videos got converted like that

Commercial audio ripping tools also can do this, there should be trials around them, like here:

The last real attempt I did for something like that was using FlaskMPEG to do the job. It's been ages though...there could be better.

Total Recorder ?

It can record any song anywhere in the computer, in a game, in a movie, etc. Almost like if you hade a virtual radio on your PC and press RECORD. Maybe you could play the songs with your favorite player and record via TR I dunno.

Well, it doesn't seem that Winamp is capable of playing DVDs. FlasKMPEG crashes... and some other free audio ripper I found won't work

Play it with VLC and record it with Audacity. Any sound recorder can record any sound output if you go to Volume Control, go to the recording options and select Stereo Mix as input.

there is no Stereo Mix as input... in fact, there's only one device listed, and that's the audio hardware.

Sounds like you need a sound card that doesn't suck, then.

Check This Out

Perhaps it could be of some use for you provided the songs aren't over 3 minutes. It will only rip the first 3 minutes of a song because the program is shareware. You could always look for a crack......

I'll try it, thanks

Bah it doesn't work... not to mention the text is hard to read because of the stupid colors he forces on you.
