Everyone knows how much the system cost when it came out, but is there a site which lists that for games? Somebody had to have kept track of such info. Even if it's not NES, go ahead and link me to price databases for any other classic systems you know of. This will be greatly appriciated since I couldn't find anything with a Yahoo! search.

I'm not sure if it's true, but I've been told a few times in the past that old games used to cost like $50 to even $70 when they first released.

I'm just not sure, since I was pretty young I didn't really buy games back in the day, this was very true with the N64 though (Perfect Dark, Donkey Kong 64, etc, were $70 new).

So, hope that helps -somewhat-, but yeah I have no idea where you could get this kind of info.

I think Xeolord is right, they were that much. I saw some SNES games a long time ago and Super Mario RPG was like $60, WTF? I'm just glad that today's games are cheaper than in the past.

I did this back in 1988 when those games were still selling (some were even new), I don't remember if it's really accurate but it sounds about right

fabio: Well I remember a few months ago there was debate going on whether or not prices would rise with the next generation systems (I think they wanted to push them up to $60).

EA was especially pushing for it.

I just hope they're kept at $50, I still think that's a lot, but yeah it's understood a lot of work goes into making a game, but still ...

Sweet shit. That's about right though if you convert over here...

The only thing I personally remember shelling out a shitload for was Kirby's Super Star, and that was 70 bucks. These older ones I don't recall pushing more than 30 bucks for. I remember getting Top Gun: The Second Mission at that price...took a look at it the other day and it's worth a buck-seventy.

I won't forget when trading in old games was worth so much also.

Right when the N64 came out, I remember trading in Yoshi's Island for $40 bucks.

Bad move, but don't worry I recently bought the game for $12.

Darkwing Duck was probably the most expensive NES game I bought.

It was about $80, I think.

Wow! I didn't know games were always as expensive (or more expensive) then they are now. I think they should pass a law that says that all games can't be over $30. Didn't they do something like that with CDs?

Games used to be expensive until around 1997 when the N64 was big, the most games became a standard $20-50.

Castlevania: Dracula X costed a whopping $70 when it was brand new in 1996. It's the reason I never got it when it was new because it was so expensive.

Most of the standards now usually don't exceed 49.99USD without tax (53.99 around here with tax at 8%). The only things I can figure on that would exceed that would be FFXI with the hard drive and that was 99.99USD.

Yum. I think most new games were in the $49-$69 range here for the NES.

I think my parents HATED the fact I wanted FF3/6 for Christmas when it came out... not that they couldn't afford it, but that they were stunned they had to pay $99.99 (yes) for a VIDEO GAME. That game was HORRIBLY overpriced and I think Chrono Trigger sold here for $79.99.

Thanks. I kinda thought people here were shunning me. I do remember paying $60 or so for WWF No Mercy (the glitchy version too!), Zelda Majora's Mask, Pokemon Stadium 2, and several others. Man, I'm not that loaded with money anymore. Wasn't certain on the older ones because I didn't own any game console until about 1991. Pretty sure it was a used NES. The Half-Life 2 box set had been full price. With everything needed to get the full experience, I'd say Animal Crossing cost me most than any other game. $50 for it, $40 for E-Reader, $10 GCN-GBA cable, and a card pack or two which are $4 each. I don't keep track of it, but I'm thinking the most recent $50 for me was KOTOR2 PC. I have the Steel Battalion controller, though it's useless since it didn't come with a game! At least that beast only cost $20 or so. If it just a had PC driver for the Xbox-USB adaptors...

I paid that much money when I bought that game and all the stuff but it was cheaper though. $50 for the game, $29.99 for the used e-reader, $15 for the GCN-GBA cable, and card packs were a $1 each at Walmart.

Well, bundles exceeding $49.99 does make sense.

I remember I bought the Arc the Lad Collection for about $89.99 I think. Then handed over $29.99 for the huge bible-like Strategy guide.

Yeah, but that collection was more of a "limited offer/collectable" thing to begin with. :\

Always wondered why SE hasn't bothered to do a FF or DW pack for the cash.
