| After installing a USB mouse onto my computer, every time I log in to windows, it says I need to "reboot my computer to finish setting up the hardware". The problem is, even if I do reset the computer, the message never goes away. Before I put the USB mouse in, I did have a PS/2 mouse plugged in, that I removed with the computer on because my parents needed it. does anyone know what I could do the fix the problem? | |||

| if that PS/2 mouse had software for it installed, that may cause problems. Otherwise, it could be the case the OS does not take a USB mouse without the proper software? | |||

There's a small possibility that the mouse requires a higher version of USB than your machine has. How old is your motherboard? Again, this is a small possibility, and I don't think this is the problem. Might as well check all bases though.  |

| I don't know if the mouse needs USB 2.0, since it works fine for me. I have a pentium 200mhz processor, with my FSB set at.. 67mhz I think. I never installed software for the mouse, except for the PS/2 driver that windows installed. since that problem started, I've also installed a LEGO USB IR tower, which needed special software, but the message hasn't stopped. As for the OS, would win98 second edition do that? Windows said that it had installed HIDDEV.dll properly. | |||

| pentium with USB mouse support, that is rare... Maybe USB 1.0 didn't allow for mice to be used in that fashion but USB 1.1 did? I can't think of anything else. I know my AthlonXP 1800+ compure allowed for USB mouse support and I was using Windows 98 SE. I'm guessing your computer is too hold to use a USB mouse directly...i think you are just better off right now buying an adapter to allow a USB mouse to be used with a PS/2 port | |||

| Well, Since this mouse setup isd only here until my parent gets new AAA batteries, I don't see the point in buying an adaptor, but it could just be a lack of hardware support, since my BIOS has no mention of any legacy devices, let alone USB mice. I checked everything ecept boot order, but I know that section inside-out, no legacy mentions there either. | |||

| Why don't you get one of those USB->PS2 converters. It lets you connect USB mice to the mouse's normal PS2 port. They only cost about $5. | |||

| Well, because once my mom buys more AAA batteries, I'm getting back my PS/2 mouse, and the USB mouse is going back to a 1-year-old computer, instead of my Pentium. Because of that, I don't honestly see a reason to buy a $5 converter instead of a couple of AAA's, which are less than $5. | |||
