Apparently Accutane causes suicidal thoughts and makes you emo (Or so the paper for it says), and I'm wondering if anyone here that is/was on Accutane ever became emo or wanting to kill yourself. If not, well, post here too.

Several studies have emerged suggesting a possible link between isotretinoin and depression. It must however be acknowledged that its primary use is for the treatment of the most severe acne. The possibility that this severe acne is causing the depression is therefore not to be ruled out. Moreover, improvement of a patient's acne by successful treatment with isotretinoin can actually reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Statistical evidence shows that the suicide rate among Accutane users is actually lower than average.
*shrug* I never heard of it til now.

I've never heard of this before, nor do I think it's a very strong statistic. I have a lot of friends who currently use accutane, and they arent depressed at all. Like what YD posted, depression is probably caused by the acne itself, not the medicine.
I would use this stuff if I could, but apparently it would cause severe skin damage because my skin is already overly sensitive.

I guess killing yourself would rid you of your acne problems...
Maybe its some marketing ploy.

Seven or eight years ago I had serious problems with acne, but then there was no Accutane there. Hearing this news sucks, since that treatment is just meant to help - like most of them too - and since people tend to judge people from outer appearance often, this is even worse.
On the other hand - does it inflict these thoughts anyway or "only" if someone experienced a bad childhood, lacking self-confidence (*cough*) ?

Sources on Google also tell something about Accutane's side effects - revealed quite some stuff about that, like this one:

I was getting really excellent results with previous medications, maybe Accutane would finish it off. I don't think that i would become suicidal, I mean, all that effort of killing yourself for nothing?

(On a serious note, I am not stupid enough to want to kill myself)

Yeah, you don't want to kill yourself, but the chemical composition and hormone levels in your brain go wonky.

It is best to just you know, think happy thoughts?

Alright, my post was probably offensive, so I changed the wording a bit ...

I think it depends on the person.

For men, I don't see how it really can effect anyone, nor do I know of anyone that's really been effected by it. But women could be different.

Personally, I had been a very stressed person a few years ago (mainly during Jr. High, just all that shit and stuff), but I wasn't taking Accutane at the time, just telling you I've had my share of depressions.

I basically just got off of this stuff, maybe a month or two ago. It NEVER affected me in anyway whatsoever, except for one thing: Yay I'm happy, my face is clear!

Seriously though, I never had a problem. It did get irritating with the skin feeling oiley and stuff, and peeling here and there occasionally, but yeah.

I'm pretty sure I've posted my epic about acne somewhere here before. Basically I had acne issues for maybe 4-5 years, no joke. You name a product, I've probably been on it. FINALLY I was put on this stuff, Accutane, and it did the job. It cleared my face up, I haven't broken out in months, I'm a happy man, and it never affected me, never made me overly depressed, didn't give me side effects of any kind.

Just depends on the person.

Graviteh: Again, I had acne for over 4 years, took any medications you can think of, and this stuff actually worked. I'd say try it out, you've got common sense, and you don't seem like the person that would do anything rational. If you notice any side effects, you can pull away from the medication and just stop using it.

I'd say give it a try ... it worked for me.

Edit: Just for more fact / information, I was on this for 6-7 months. Again, no effects. From a personal experience with this stuff, I can tell you NOT to expect results very quickly. I think it took a good couple of months to actually show some real progress that you could see on me, but when it was all over, there's a HUGE difference. My family and everyone's noticed and commented about it and everything.

(for the record I never had serious acne. I just broke out a lot, not in hives though. If you go to get Accutane they'll probably show you a book of seriously disgusting acne effected people, it made my acne problem look good. )

(not trying to sound offensive there)

Yeah, a bottle of pills.

JUST making sure.

Since, I actually didn't take my pills for accutane from bottles, they were in these box-like plastic containers that had 50+ warnings on them everywhere you could think of, and it usually took a few minutes to get a single pill out.

phew.
