It seems that my computer isn't quite capable of running VisualBoy Advance at anywhere near a decent framerate. That said, I figure that a DOS-based emulator might be more practical. Thing is, I've never heard of a DOS-based GBA emulator. Does anyone know if any exist?

As a side note, any suggestions you can offer to get VBA running at a decent speed would be appreciated.

System Specs:
Processor: Pentium II 350Mhz
RAM: 160MB
OS: Windows 98

There is an DOS GBA emulator on that page (with the name VGBA), but I would be surprised if you could run any games with it. It's old...

Woah. Thanks, but that didn't work at all. I find that VBA almost works properly if nothing else at all is open... but that's about it. Anyone know if there are any preferences I can change to make it run smoother?

A P2 350 *COULD* run GBA games at full speed, but you'd have to play around with the frameskip. Maybe lowering sound quality or disabling it could help as well.

I know my Celeron 300 ran them at around 40% speed, but it was a Celery. Yours should be able to squeeze out more speed.

Well, the sound on it is absolutely crap due to skipping, anyhow... so maybe I could cut that out. But I'll leave that for a last resort, because the music is half the reason I love games so much! Thanks, though. I'll fiddle around, and see what happens.

you'll get fullspeed with VBA in allmost all GBA Games on a PIII 450MHz with 128MB RAM.

It also helps when you disable and close all applications, you don't need for VBA.

Also consider raising the priority to high.

PII 300mhz
191 MB RAM
Winblowz 98 SE

I usually leave the sound on though... As you said, it's also one of the reasons I play the damn things

Very similar to my specs. For a while I ran games at 80% or so with frameskip 2, but I like it better with frameskip 0, even though it does run at 40-50%. You get used to the speed, and it's a lot, well, smoother.. in gameplay as well as graphics.
