I admit it! I still like the Pokemon game series! I mean, I don't buy the cards or faithfully watch the show anymore. That stuff went out with the '90s! Past all that media hype and that yellow mouse, there's a rock solid game that never gets old, no matter how many versions Nintendo makes. My most recent game is Pokemon FireRed, mostly purchased for old time's sake of reliving the first game. I have 'obtained' the new Pokemon Emerald and it was crazy! How can a game keep its originality and fun factor 11 + games later? I don't know! Even The Sims series, a beautifully crafted game, is running out of steam! But a game about pocket monsters carries on! Post your opinions and theroies about this odd phenominon. =P Snika |

I stopped enjoying the games as much when Ruby/Sapphire came out. The new pokemon seemed to be nothing special (Lairon looks like Rhyhorn. No, seriously), and until Emerald came out there was no challenge. Wasn't much of one in Emerald, either. The games stopped being fun, the pokemon stopped seeming different from each other... Maybe I'll pick up a new copy of Gold or Crystal when I get my next paycheck, and think about the days of 251. |

I love the old games, even still. But the series went downhill after Gold and Silver. The GBA games were boring and slow, despite the two on two battles. Even the card game went sour after too many reincarnations. But I still have the origional series. Charizard and what-not. But hte games, yes. I still have Blue Version, Yellow Version, and Pinball. And ROMS of Red, Gold, and Silver. So I can still enjoy the old faves. |

I lost faith in these games after Ruby Sapphire, the third generation pokemon isn't as good as the second, I mean come on, the legendary rocks? Those legendaries got me to stop playing the games plus the fact that there's still $34.99 at my local gamestore which is the most they'll charge for a GBA game. By the way, Ruby/Sapphire and the other games for the GBA are still $34.99. The only cool thing in Ruby/Sapphire was Kyogre, Groundon, and Rayquaza. Oh, before I get, I heard rumors about a 4th generation of Pokemon probably enough to bring the total to 500! It's suppose to come out for the DS but 251 was enough and I highly doubt that the gameplay will improve. | |||

I wouldn't have even thought of playing one of these games, until my brother got Emerald, and I watched him play it, and liked what I saw, as compared to the other games I played, which were ones for Gameboy Color A couple days later, I picked up another copy of the game for myself, and cooped myself up in my room over the weekend to play the game on my DS I had a friend over last night, who hadn't played any of those games in a while, except for on his computer, but as soon as he got a chance to sit down, out came the old Gameboy Advance, along with Gold, Crystal, and another GBA game that didn't have to do with Pok |

After G/S/C it was death for me. I actually pulled out my gold cart last week but I've lost the GBC to play it on, so I handed it over to a friend to see what I've got on it. Thing has to have a good 400-500 hours of play time on it. G/S/C was probably one of the best, if not the best, version of the game out there. 16 badges >>>>> 8 and way too much extra to do that was a nice addition from the R/B/Y (and G) series. This newer series isn't bad but even if I had a GBA to carry around I would more than likely play G/S/C over anything newer. |

I still stand by Red and Silver as the two greatest versions of the game, because they're still so in line with what Pokemon was really all about: Watching cute death machines beat the crap out of lesser beings in one-on-one battles to the death (faint?). Ruby and Sapphire... They're good, yeah, but I feel like two on two battling really takes something away from the series. It's like, when your pokemon faints, you don't think "Shit! I'm one step closer to losing this battle!", you think "Ah, well, one down, but I've still got one to go!". That's not my style. Plus, Furret and Charmander just own you all. And... Yes.... I like Pikachu. A lot. As for the anime, the first series? Good, really captured the essence of what teh games were about through a true-to-the-game perspective (could have used more of a romance factor though). Orange Islands? Passable, I guess. Johto? Uh... Getting a little murky here. Master Quest? Suck. Anything beyond that? I have no clue. Oddly enough, the anime doesn't follow the way the game is "supposed" to go. Most people don't either. A lot of people get their badge in Saffron City before going after Koga simply because it's possible and it's what Ash does in the anime, but you can get Koga's badge first (in fact, you're supposed to get it first!) if you do it correctly. And G/S/C had a great thing going with the whole "Return to Kanto" thing. Good idea. |

Gold/Silver are the best in the entire series. Yes, I own Ruby. Yes, I have played it a lot. But Gold/Silver are just... just... better. They had the original Pokemon and a few new ones. The newer Pokemon for me were strange at first, but I figured out their weaknesses fast. However, in Ruby, I have a tough time figuring out anything. Besides, some of the Pokemon I feel like not catching. I don't see anything strong or weak about them. If I see an old Pokemon, I get it, but the newer ones... eh. I take it on how it looks (Mawile is so far the only one that I think looks cool...). So yeah, G/S are the best ones in my opinion. Those had big time challenge. In Ruby, the only challenge was... ummm... eh... let me get back to you with this... I forget my party for G/S, but all I know was that I had only one strong Pokemon, and that was Typhlosion (been a while since I played it on my Gameboy, and I can't play Gameboy games on my DS, so... yeah, years...). |

RBY was decent for its time but it nothing special now. It didn't have enough to allow much strategy to the game. GSC was crap. It introduced too many new elements to the game and had no balancing factors. As a result, its battle system was damned awful; Competitive matches are nothing more than glorified stallwars. That's not fun. That's crap. GSC has stat experience. R/B were awesome for their time. Simple and fun. The glitches made multiplayer a pain, though, since everyone just cheated. If you could find someone who didn't, Psychic just dominated like hell. G/S were probably the best in the series. R/B and then some, with colour and twice as much to do. (Would have been nice to have the second world be like another whole quest as opposed to just some nostalgia though. ) Multiplayer still suffers, though. They tried to even it out by adding Dark and Steel, but didn't add enough of them. The only ones that they did add are way strong, so now all 3 types dominate like hell. Ru/Sa are crap compared to the first 2. Barely good enough for me to bother finishing. The AI is cheap, there are way too many Pok |

Yes, GSC has stat experience, but it doesn't use the same (vastly superior) system as Advance. Your comments on RuSa make me sad, since they prove quite readily that you have no real experience whatsoever. And if that's the case, why do you comment? Advance may take some getting used to, but it's by far the best. But to really prove your ignorance... Watch it, Kyouji. That sounds a bit too much like telling him to shut up because he disagrees with you. I think you've both made your share of asinine comments in this thread, but I haven't said "why do you comment?" yet. What I'd like to see is one game - probably Gamecube or Revolution - that included the entire Pokemon world, with every single one of the creatures available. Thanks to the magic of memory cards, trading (which would still be needed for certain event-related pokemon like the starters) and battling with others would still be quite possible, and having the entire land to explore could potentially be great for single-player people (or those whose friends simply haven't gotten the game yet). But they'd make more money going with what they do now, so that'll probably never happen. Especially with kids that want to not only collect every Pokemon, but every Pokemon game as well. |

... Point me to one asinine comment I've made here. I know I've said a few things directly as a result of my incredible arrogance, but asinine? No Perhaps it's foolish of me to disregard every aspect except player VS player battles, but... Isn't that rather the point of the game? So wouldn't it make sense that the one with the most developed battle system (rather, the most fun battle system) is going to be better? |

The asinine part being that you said the single player mode didn't count. Then again, there's a high likelyhood that I used the wrong word. I tend not to put much thought into things pokemon-related. =/ Perhaps the one with the most fun battle system is better to you. I don't have the advantage of frequent access to other people that have ANY of the games. Single-player has to hold me over usually for that very reason. |

I agree that the Gold/Silver games were one of the best in the series. They had a lot of features like different Pokemon in different times of the day. I think thats one of the first portable games to take advantage of a real time clock! =P Snika |
